help with high cholesterol

looking to lean

New member
I know this thread was already started, but I would like some personal advice from the guru's here.

my profile is way out of whack....

total being 275ish. now I know this is bad.. real bad. Im doing everything I can to get this under control asap.

I would like to hear from anyone that has had past experience with this issue and brought their health back from the depths of dispair.

funny thing is that I feel great. my bf% is lower over the last couple months. my workouts are great. diet is good.. not as perfect as it could be, but for few exceptions (a person has to cheat alil here and there).

cardio 3-5x a week. I think this is where Im going to alter. I think I may go for an hour everyday, instead of HIIT or 80% for 30-40mins. my doc says the more aerobic the better.

should I keep my cal intake around a 10% reduction from daily?

please more suggestion in all areas are appreciated.

Are you on gear? Steroids increases your total cholesterol and lowers your HDL to sometimes dangerous levels.

If you're not on gear, then you can try eating a bowl of oatmeal daily, eating more fruits and vegetables, and eating less fried food (if you eat any at all). Drinking three glasses of Metamucil per day or eating two apples per day have also been shown to lower cholesterol levels.

However, I have a feeling given your numbers you will likely require medication to lower your cholesterol. Unfortunately, it's all in the genes. It doesn't matter how fit you are, how well you eat, or how much you exercise if you have bad genes.

not on gear, no.

I do eat oatmeal everyday. I eat fruit everyday. Im eating more vegies. I never eat fried foods.

I sure hope I dont need meds. My father just told me that none of the meds they have given him have done a thing for him. ~great~

thanx for the suggestions, I will apply what I can.

What are some of the drugs that can be taken? what are the sides? who has had luck with what?

I would incorporate fish oil and garlic into your diet, along with what Swatdoc says. Beans, grains, and whole grain bread tend to lower cholesterol because of their high fiber content.

Unfortunately he is correct about the genes......

well I would derict you to see pintoca persinaly.he seems to be pritty noligable about this.gess he was pritty out of shap and realy got himself in shap and helthy pritty fast.when it comes to takeing off woght in a heathy way i think he is one of the best guys to go to.

ill PM pintoca and see what he says.. thanx.

as for fish oil... Im taking Nutra-sea already.

I think Im doing the right things, but I felt my health would be at least heading in the right direction by now.

bro, if you have, or your family has, a genetic predisposition toward cholesterol problems, do go see a doctor again. not worth messing around with potentially life changing stuff, yah know?

i was at the doc today....

he doesnt seem to think Im in serious need of drugs yet. diet/training/supps for 2 months, then I get my blood done again with tyroid test this time. altho last year my thyroid was fine.

tyroid and trygl are fine...

hdl/ldl/tot are all in the shitter

As we have mentioned, there are only certain things you can do. If you are doing them as you state you are, then really you are doing all you can. Eating a solid diet, exercising, etc. Works for many folks, but if you are predispositioned by genetics, then this will just serve as a mild deterent at best. This does not mean don't do it of course, but in your case it may not have the desired results and medication may well be needed. See what your doc says when you go back.
