Help with chest/tri routine

SoreArms

New member
I'm trying to put together a solid chest and tri routine. I know that what I do isn't complete so I'll list what I'm currently doing and let me know what core exercises I'm missing. I want to avoid redundant movements/exercises, but want a complete routine, also let me know if you think certain exercises are better that what I'm currently doing.

Thanks in advance buds

(all exercises are 1 warm up set, 3 working sets in the 6-8 rep range)

incline DB press
smith machine press
cable cross over (cables on top, push forward)
cable cross over (cables on bottom, pull in toward waist)
*what are those last two called?
*flat bench occasionally, but not every week

tri push downs
BB pull overs

i think its pretty simple to build a good chest routine with just a few exercises..also bb pullovers you haver listed with your tris they really work the lats more and a little chest..heres what i would stress
incline BB press

i dont like the smith machine for anything..i dont know if you have shoulder problems and thats why you dont bench every week?

after incline i would do some dbell flat presses

next i would do some flat or incline dbell flyes..ditch the cables..a good chest routine i built around pressing either incline or flat..throw in some decline or hit a hammer machine as a secondary move once in awhile and your chest will grow..

as far as tri's if you ARE doing them after chest you really dont need to do too much more work for them..i would do base my tri rotuine around
skulls
overhead dbell extension
dips
pick two above and then finish off with rope pushdowns..

if you do tri's on a separate day than chest your best bet is cg benches

oops.....

OK, no smith machine, I meant hammer machine and I guess I didn't know what they were called but from your response I guess it's over head bb extension instead of pull overs.

I do tris last and do tri push downs with the straight bar, is the rope better? I used to workout solo, so it's hard to push myself on bench with no one spotting me. I've recently started working out with my cousin but I guess I've been used to not benching so I haven't really thrown it in, I'll throw in to the routine.

thanks bud

take a dumbbell and hold it behind your head with 2 hands and extend from you elbows straight up..( thats overhead dbell extension)..

if your at a gym always always ask someone for a spot..i think its more embarassing to be pinned under a weight whether its 400 or 135 because u didnt ask for a spot..its how youll make friends too..

i switch between the rope and the v-bar..the rope gets all heads pretty nicely and its a little easier on the wrists

W2BB said it perfect, the only thing I'll add, is seperate your chest and tri's on seperate days, IMO you'll never get as good of tri development when you hit them after you have destroyed your chest already. and once you do that do
cg bench
skulls
dips
and rope push downs

thats .02
good luck
Peace
