I was on the bench press the other day, not lifting anything too
crazy heavy, just 3 plates aside on incline and on the 4th rep I felt this
tear/rip in my left pec around where the sholuder meets the pec muscle.
me being the dumbass I am , continued to work out. The next day
my chest area where the front of the shoulder meets had a bruise on it
the size of baseball. I haven't gone to the doctor but i've been icing it and
using dr. ho's muscle therapy. It's been about 2 weeks and it feels o.k.
but I haven't tried to workout my chest yet.when should I
train my chest again? help!!! I feel like just injecting some deca in there
or something to speed things up. LOL

Come on bro.. What do you really think you should do?? Train chest again when you have a baseball size knot and bruise, or go get it looked at.
You gotta be careful bro.. 315 on incline is a big number!!!!

I don't know about you but I train smart b/c I want to look and feel good when I am 50-60.. I dont wanna be one of those "back in highschool glory days" couch potatos that cant lift anything other than a 12oz can of bud b/c of a 315 pound bench press in highschool or college..

Smarten up bro, it sounds serious...

I went back the other day and trained back and it felt o.k. but i think
you guys are all right . i'm going to see the doctor and see what he has to say.

better yet,, find out if there is a walk in sports medicine clinic,, they specialize in torn muscles and ligaments,, plus youre in canada,,, so you wont have to pay,, bless the queens arse,, the big ol' lazy one that it is.. :fro:

edit added: BOOYAKA BOOYAKA thas how we run

I did the same thing about 4 months ago, bro. I went to the Athletic Trainer's office and they sent me to the Doctor's for x-rays and shit. Then the Doc told me to lay off chest exercises for a month minimum and sent me back to the Trainer's office for exercises to do. They had me doing push-ups, light dumbbell flies, shit like that. Took me a full 3 months to recover from it, but I had a pretty serious tear...I'm not sure how serious yours is. Good luck, don't push it bro.....you'll just hurt yourself more. Take your time and get better. :coffee:

This happened to me and it was the first of three tears. Now I can't do ANY barbell presses!! I can still do heavy dumbbell though!!! Get it looked at immediately!

yeah, I did some really light machine presses yesterday to see if the pain was still
there but it was gone but I think I'm not going to work my chest out for a bit.
If I do I'll just do really light presses and take it slow. does anybody know how
that happens? It can't be from going too heavy because I always lift that no problem.

Ive had similar happen to my quads while squatting. Was just doing 405 like I normally do and on the 4th rep I could hear the muscle rip, sounded like tearing a T-shirt. Leg was very sore and could barely walk, took me about 3 weeks to recover from it. Did this 2 other times in different places. To me its more of a stiffness thing. I think I hadnt stretched out enough and maybe should have done some more warmup sets. I never had any bruising with these tears, which is strange. My theory is that I tore the fascia that covers the muscle. Each time I could hear an audible tearing sound. One time the guy spotting me could hear it and a guy standing back about 8 feet could hear it too.
To heal I just took off as much time as it took to be able to do light weights with no pain. I was able to do leg presses, but not squats. Started out light and then worked my way up then eventually squated again. Use pain as your guide. So might be a matter of doing othe chest exercises that cause no pain.
the area you injured might have some tendon damage at the insertion of the pectoralis major on the humerus, so you might want to consider seeing a doc like the others here have said. If there is still pain, swelling, and loss of range of motion I would go. they can order an MRI to see if anything is torn.

Make sure to do a light aerobic warmup to break a sweat (5 minutes on the bike, maybe), then do some dynamic stretches (check out Martin Rooney's Warmup video from the Parisi Speed School), and then make sure you do enough warmup sets for your exercise.

Should be good.

I believe they will operate within 10 days...

I have friends who inject b-12 and some type of peroxide mix into a torn muscle. Swears that it works. I've also heard of injecting bacterio static water as well.

Warmth, hot muscle rubs, water, etc...
