Help setting up my gym

New member
Ok, ive been working at the same gym for two years, when the gym got new managment. But since the beginning, there had been a problem with how the equipment and free weights are places. Because of the way the building is made, the free weights are seperated from the rest of the gym. SO that it resembles (sp?) a dungeon. This is not ideal for a couple of reasons.

1) Buisness - The room is refeered to as the "bodybuilding" room, drug room etc. Because most of our serious clients train there. So the rumor mill works all the time.

2) Practical - If I want old Grandma Jensen to do some dumbell exercises for her rotator cuff, she wont go in to the free weight room because of number 1.

My bosses hasnt really bothered with this. Untill we now got a new manager, who manages the trainers and meight part of the gym. And the first thing he told me was that we had to re-organize it all.

So here i am, trying ot come up with a good suggestion. So i wuld like your imput. We have all the basic equipment (benchpress/squat rack/smith machine/dumbell rack/benches/incline/preacher/free bars) and a fulll ife fitness series of machines and cardio equipments.

Here is a litte rendering of how our lay out is now. Feel free to give me some hint and advice on how you would make it look better.

I was thinking this was going to be your own personal gym in your house. My advice was going to be don't buy any equipment you're not going to use like a squat rack or a standup urinal.

Ain't that the troof?

Man, then by the 7th word when I realized he was talking about his place of employment, I was all like ... "yeah... ask us what to steal to take home for your OWN gym.." But no. It ain't even remotely as serious as that.

Here's my hint.... put Grandma Jensen to work in the sauna giving handjobs and you won't have to worry about her in the #1 room. Plus she will get all the rotar cuff exercise she needs in there too.

Thanks for nothing cumbuckets.

Your welcome. I tried, but I don't know.

can u get the cardio section into the free weights room and move that into what was the cardio area?

using ur diagram the strength area is effectivly fixed as you need somewhere that big for all the machines. sqwuash court cannot move. so you have to move either the cardio area or the weights....integration is impossible due to women being impossible about exercising in front of men... so maybe you could do this?

whats the options on knocking a wall out and expanding?

my gym just got labelled by a new member as 'average joes' out of dodgeball....still she was really nice and good looking so whatever :D

We have talked about knocking down the wall between the cardio section and the free weight section.
I also want to move the dumbells into the middle of the wall in the machine section. See what happends then.

is there space to do exercises there? if not, people will just carry or roll them to the weights ares, i used to do the same in my old gym

Yeah i will space it up with mats and benches so that there are no other place to use them. also planning on grouping the machines. maybe a chest group, back group etc

Squash anyone?

why not knock down the wall where the roid room is and open it all up. put the free weights and strength machines on the left side and move the cardio to the right side.

This is what I was thinking.
