Help PLEASE! Career Advice Needed!

OK, so I'm in between jobs at the moment. I was considering a few options, and maybe y'all can help me come to an eventual conclusion, as to what direction I should take. Here are my options:

1. Take a job in selling cars. I do not live in the City, where there would obviously be more money in this business. I like the potential for money, but do NOT like the lack of guarantee of ANY money, if you don't sell anything.

2. Join the ARMY. I am single, in good shape, and could care less about moving out of this area. I have looked into this before(recently), and have found that I would actually come out of Boot Camp as an E3 because of my College Credits.

OR

3. Get a job Bartending(something I used to do), and go back to school for Electrician.

If I were you, option #3. Why go back to school though, I believe the unions have apprenticeships or some deal like that. I'm not sure where you are but if you're anywhere by chicago, let me know, my friends dad owns a really big electrical company.

Thanks. I'm leaning that way actually. It all depends on this Job I have been offered. I am to speak with the Restaurant at 4PM today, to find out if they want me for evenings. If they do, I should be able to make enough money to cover all my expenses, and still go back to school. If they want me just for someone to be there during slow afternoons, then I doubt I will bother. No money there, and the Army would be my bext choice. I talked to my Uncle, and he said if that's the way I want to go, then I should join The Reserves to see if I like it, get the most out of it as far as them paying for schooling(PaYS), then decide if I want to go active.

Please--more responses. Thanks

If I were you, I'd go Army and choose your MOS as electrician.

Two birds, one stone.

I just found out that I'm disqualified. I have 2 misdemeanors on my record. They told me originally that those weren't a big deal, but when the Army checked into it, they found out that both charges were in fact Felonies originally, but were plead out as misdemeanors.

I don't understand....if I was CHARGED with a misdemeanor, how the fuck can they hold a felony charge which I never plead to over my head AS a felony? They are basicly saying that, even though I didn't plea(thus wasn't chrged with a Felony) to the Felony, the fact that I was even charged with one disqualifies me. WHAT BULLSHIT

Were the charges originally booked as a misdemeanor?
You *CAN* write a letter to the recruiting office to allow an exception for that I think. Even if they were both felonies.

I'm not sure what you mean by "originally booked" bro. They were both Felonies originally, but were offered, and taken by myself, as misdemeanors. In other words, if you checked my record, it would show 2 misdemeanors. If you dug deeper, you would see they were both originally felonies.

1. will always be there. Always.

2. the only one of the three that can change your life

3. immersion in sleazeballs.

I'll call The Recruiter now and ask him about these waivers. I'll post up in a few....................................

He's telling me that the Court says that I was convicted of Felonies in both cases! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??? These guys are deither really stupid, or I am getting fucked by these Courts. I plead out both of these cases as Misdemeanors. I have to talk to him again at 7PM EST

Bro

relax.

Explain to your recruiters that while the original charges were felonies, you do not have a felony conviction, that you were only convicted of misdemeanors.

Ask the recruiters what documents they need to see they were only misdemeanors.

Get the docs, forward to recruiters, and you;re good.

Go talk to the Marine recruiter and watch how fast the waivers come? They have waivers for everything. It all depends on the recruiter really and how motivated he is to work. Most are just lazy pieces of shit filling a B-billet who are your buddy until the day you come back from bootcamp/basic/whatever you call it.

If you do decide to look into the Corps they'll only give you PFC [e-2] for college credit.

Ok. Thanks Matt. I'll ask him about the Docs at 7. Good advice.

Alot of jobs these days, the employer does a background check. They may hold this over your head to get anywhere. #2 was eliminated. #3 seems to be the best option.

Dude, their is good money in trade work, especially if you're unionized. The electrician scale in michigan is around $35 an hour, plus benifits and a pension. Get your card, become a master electrican. Fukk, you could move anywhere and I apply that knowledge...

You can appeal your denial, I'm sure of it.

That shows them two things:
1.) The charges are, in fact, misdemeanors.
2.) You have "stick-to-itness" and disciplined enough to follow through.
