Help me understand why gas has risen more than 30 cents this week while

we have spent over 2 billion dollars securing crude oil in the middle east. How is this possible.. Serious speculation or knowledge only please. thanks

That's why I just dewinterized my Harleys today.

Up 30 cents and you're complaining already? I wouldn't be surprised to have gas at over $3 all summer.

And it gets better...................just wait till Bush and Israel attack Iran and Iran screws up the straights that most the worlds oil flows thru. You haven't seen anything yet. Just the thought of it will raise gas price. So don't think about it. And don't say anything about it to anyone else.

And besides, you didn't think anyone other than the rich would benefit from all that shit did you???? Why lower prices when we actually have even more now than we did before.

It seems I am one of the remaining souls that seen a live interview with Rumsfield and one of the reporters asked why were we in Iraq. Rumsfileds reply "duh, their sitting on a sea of oil." I seen it, I heard it, you can't take that away from me.

I have two brothers that work for exxon-mobil. One works out of Houston, the other off the coast of Russia...

Exxon-Mobil profits last year were nearly 30 billion dollars. They stated that there was no trickle down. They were as angry as anyone about gas prices.

Its all about making money. Not about shortages, Not about war, All about dollars!

(They make more in bonus then I make a year.)

I rode in a subcompact the other day...I really felt like I was trying it on...and it really just didnt fit well.

I know Im the same way however Pick3s Prius gets 40 mpg.. not bad. It beats my Lincoln

Why are gas prices rising when crude prices are dropping?

I dont know why, all I know is I hate it. I am now spending 2.49 a gallon and I use about 10-15 $ a friggin DAY.
Who ever is in charge needs to pull his fingers out of his ass and make shit cheaper!

It's a scam

Crude Prices have raised $1.30 a barrel in the last week. But the increase in gasoline prices are mostly due to a dwindling distillate stockpile in the US, estimated at 28 days.

So they say.

It's not paranoia. Until about 7 years ago gas prices were usually stable. Now they are constantly rising or falling...and there's always some reason offered to explain why our pumps prices seem to be sensitive to factors that had little discernable effect on them historically.

anyone with any foresight wouldnt shut down more than one refinery at a time for maintenance purposes.

refineries that are 100 years old also wouldnt exist. They love having rickety equipment, as soon as that shit breaks *bam* gas prices skyrocket while they take their time fixing it.

Switching from the Cold weather to warm weather gas blends creates shortages
and higher costs.

It will drop in May again so that it can bump back up for the Summer driving season..

Limited Refinery capacity
Supply and Demand 101..

If it does causes shortages, it doesnt have to. When my father's plant shuts down a turbine, which they do for maintenance every quarter, it doesnt create a power shortage. They ensure that it doesnt.

I understand that US Gas refineries are all running at 100+% capacity to meet demand, with little if any surplus capacity. When was the last new GAS refinery built in the US ? I think I read not many if any recently..

Much like paving an existing road vs making a new one..
You gotta keep things going as you change it..

There's a lot of speculators in the futures markets, profit-taking seems to be the norm there.

lol

It is crazy.....and I have been refusing to fill up like I usually do because I keep hoping they will drop back down.
I am lucky enough to only drive 4 miles to work and another 4 miles to gym, so if I fill up it will last me a good week :)

More evidence of the built-in volitility of the current system. Why spend money to expand when you can claim semi-annual shortages from rising demand?

Ultimately I'm convinced there's collusion between the people making gasoline and the government. The Southern Company, which owns about 50 gazillion power companies, dont have the freedom to raise consumer prices as much as we see at the pumps, so they expand their infrastructure as needed. The lawmakers demand it. The lawmakers dont appear to place the same demands on the people making our gasoline.

1979.

Refineries are like prisons, everyone wants more but no one wants one near them.

Gas was $1.246 per gallon in 1982. Inflation since that time is 209% for an average gas price of 2.61. Gas here in FL is 2.499, still below that price.

I really can't argue those possible points, I'm just trying to esplain to youse why I think it goes up and down.

Now shut up and get back in the kitchen.

What is worst of all is the Diesel prices.

its a very crude unrefined fuel source....shouldnt be MORE than premium

Shortage. I can get it free at the rig, which is why my next truck will be a diesel with a 100 gallon service tank in the bed, hidden under a toolbox and a selector switch in the cab.

$1.24? Where? I remember it being under a dollar, in the early 90's. And that's in WA, where we've got fairly high prices.

forget all that shit about a government for the people of the people, what government really means to those in it is closer to OPM - Other Peoples Money

On the topic of oil. The buck stops at the average consumer and their absolute dependance on it.

One of our refineries, out in the hinterland, had a fire. So most of the ESSO stations around here have been out of gas for a month. All the other stations, at the same time, raised their prices about 5 cents per liter per week. 'cause we needs the gas, we keep paying for it.
No collusion here, Nossir.
