Help me make OATMEAL taste good.

Guys i absolutely hate the taste of oatmeal. I have just been eating 1/2 cup of it in the morning only mixing it with water, and it taste like ass. Can you give me some recipe suggestions. I'm thinking about picking up some Splenda. Thx
 
Use milk instead of water, add in a chopped apple/pear, raisins, chopped nuts, cinnamon or even some chilli powder.
 
I just lob some cinnamon, splenda into it as a base
sometimes i add a dash of cocoa for chocolate oatmeal
or natty pb and a dollop of sugar free/low sugar strawberry jam for a pb and J oatmeal :)
just be creative
one favourite for people is to allow th oatmeal to cool down then add a scoop of ur favourite protein powder.
 
Skim milk, splenda, cinnamon, & sometimes for a treat raisins & chopped apple & walnuts
 
few shakes of splenda, some all natty PB, cinnamon......or davinchi syrups (any flavor) and brown sugar substitute....
 
I don't mind the taste of oatmeal, but I hate the texture, anyone have recipes to change the texture, besides oatmeal cookies, thanks.
 
I make mine very dry, then i make a very thick protien shake, Like 1 scoop in as little water as possible. After the oatmeal is done cooking, and is very dry, add the thick protein shake, prefferably chocolate. I eat this everyday, and it tastes good. you could also add some more splenda to it.
 
Try it raw. Put some in your mouth, chew a little, and then drink some water to get it down.

Doesn't taste better, but easiest way to eat.

don't use quick oats or rolled oats
use steel cut oats (irish or scottish oats by another name)
 
toast it in a 275 oven til lightly brown
add sesame seeds and nuts
toast some more
some dried fruit (esp dried blueberries and cranberries) if you are not on keto
cinnamon, nutmeg, pinch cloves
toast a few more minutes
then add just enough keto maple syrup or real maple syrup or honey to bind (not much)
let cool a few minutes
there you go you got homemade granola
keto or otherwise
 
I also recently started eating oatmeal for breakfast. Tried it straight up for two days, just cooking 1 cup of it in 2 cups of water. Tasted like wet cardboard, so I bought some Splenda to dash on it after cooking. That helped a little but not enough, so I bought some raisins to sprinkle in. As long as I get one raisin per spoonful I'm OK, though it still doesn't taste great.

Are raisins a good thing in the morning or do they spike your insulin too much? I'm still trying to think of something better to add to the oatmeal...
 
1 banana, 5 frozen strawberries, 1 cup oatmeal, 30grams whey, 16oz, skim milk.
I drink this when i wake up, and also part of my postworkout meal
 
i had a similar problem. i hated oatmeal, but really wanted to like it. this is what i did:

buy the regular oats (not the instant)

take a slice of an apple, and chop it up into small pieces
add chopped apple to 1 cup of water
bring water to a boil
reduce heat to simmer and add oats
when done mix with 1 cup of vanilla protein powder (i use promax by sportpharma), cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of Flax seed meal (i get mine from Trader Joes)

i love this stuff. i will eat it 2-3 times a day.

That sounds good dude! Gonna give it a try. I love this forum.

Eat a breakfast burrito if you cant get it down. I substitute between oat meal and breakfast burritos, or just eggs and blackbeans with Turkey Link sausages.

Just keep eating it raw.

1) fill mouth
2) chew a little
3) flood mouth with water, swish a little, and it goes down the hatch.

Remember you don't eat because stuff tastes good, you eat for nutritional value.

If you really want to incentivize getting it down, take these two tips from me.
1) Set your countdown timer on your watch to 1 minute 30 seconds. Complete one mouthfull each cycle.
2) Drop a few peanut M&Ms into the cup. Consume them as it goes down (don't go overboard, but a few won't hurt).
 
Irish "Steel cut oats", slow cooked in hot water, add cream, stir alot, add real brown sugar stir some more = Good Eats + Great nutrition, (the steel cut oat is not rolled yet there for the body must break it down (soluble fiber) thus burning fat and cals.!
 
every morning i have 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 1/3 cup of skim milk, 1 scoop of vanilla whey powder, adn 1/2 of a small apple ( saran wrap teh other half and haev it later!!)...it comes to 274calories, and its is about 35-40 grams of protein....didnt check that, but i could check it out, i ahevti on fitday.com

sounds good
perhaps add afew nuts to give you energy once the carbs have burned off

walnuts and peanuts (if you are not allergic) are best
i love hazelnuts
i put em in all my salads
also seeds are good
unsalted sunflower seeds
 
ok...which one are the best? Hazelnuts, i didnt know they were good, im confused on which nuts are good,a dn which ones are not.....

the best nuts are considered to be walnuts
but they can be bitter sometimes
pecans are similar
i love hazelnuts
have i mentioned that?
peanuts are good too if you are not allergic
in the states i know you cannot bring peanuts into schools so that is out
all nuts are good
even soynuts (esp for women)
all seeds are good too
the key to anything is variety and not eating the same old every single day
 
canada is diff, i can bring nuts to school..yahoo......ya u mentioned u liked hazelnuts, lol......variety, im learning that...i change it,a dn i mix the calories up too....i usually have mroe on my gym days, 1200-1300cal is about where i am on cals...shoudl i be ahviong mroe??

unless you are trying to get huge, i would say not
but depends on height, workout regime and goals
 
im 5'7......i dotn know what my body fat is, but im about 147-150lbs...peopel think im smaller hten that.....i just have a lot of muscle...im trying to lose more body fat......dont want to get huge though, jsut toned, nice abs, i dont want ot eb soft , that how i put it lol...i will know my body fat by tuesday or maybe even monday...so ya tell everyone then

lol in many ways sounds like me
i am 5'5 240 but most people think i am about 175
lol
my lean body mass is 195 presently and about 21% bf but i am up 30 in lean body mass and down 62 pounds and down 19% body fat from where i started in august


lol i was a fattie
i can now see the muscles and definition along the sides of my abdomens and my arms and legs are well muscled
working on the rest
 
wow thats awsome.. ur good inspiration....good for u!!!! u got soem willpower, especially that ur a chef and ur working with food all day, keep up the good work!!! muscle is denser, so ya it all good, thats why u dont go by weight! i dont bother using a scale, i acutally dont knwo where i am in the scale for usre rite now, the last tiem i checked was abot 3-4weeks ago, and i dont evne bohter to use the scale unless i haev to, the scale doesnt show anything....i go by the way my clothes fit,a dn my pants are baggier on em now.yah!!

i still want to get my weight down
i took some injuries in high school and college playing football, rugby and soccer so they hurt somedays


lol ya my pants are mega baggie right now
i also fit in with the young dudes
lol
i am waiting for right before summer to buy new ones
