Help me choose a car!

Kroliczek

New member
Ok. Here is the story.

I am looking to lease a car.

I have been to a few dealerships so far: namely Mazda, Toyota, and Volvo.

I like the Volvo s40. I also like the Toyota Rav4. (I know, apples and oranges)

The Volvo, is, well a Volvo. The prestige of a Volvo is just that. IT's also a beautiful car. For 36 months, the lease payment will be approx $345.00/ mo.

The practicality of the Toyota is great: we have a steep sloping upwards driveway and when it snows, that 4wd is going to be great.
Plus when I have to get to my business when it is snowing, it seems the more 'practical' choice. (I also love to ski). For 36 months, the lease payment will be 280.00 / mo.

I would like some suggestions / guidance / opinions. Suggestions about other cars?

Thanks for your help!

Buy American you communist

I think there are better choices for a small SUV than the Rav4. I know its a popular vehicle, but I don't think it did well on the safety tests and there are some great 'hybrid' vehicles out now in similar price ranges I believe.

WTF?

Front Wheel drive will get you more places that those weak ass
full time AWD systems in the Ravs etc IMO... And it will give you better
gas milage and lower insurance prem and ride better as well.

If you are leasing then you aren't looking for long term reliability so
get what works best for those 3 years.
Toyo / Nissan would be good if you are gonna buy and keep it 8 years or more..

If you do a lot of off roading and snow stuff look at the jeep liberty as it will start to
fall apart just when your lease expires if not a bit sooner..

I like the matrix for sporty economy and Front drive for the snow..
I don't know how much ground clearance the volvo would have..

Thanks for the advice! I thought that it was just the opposite: that the insurance prem would be lower with the 4wd cars.

I will take a look at the jeep liberty.

Again, thank you for the solid advice.

i cant' stand volvos. They're epxensive to fix, very clunky and are hard to sell.

toyotas and hondas are pretty reliable. however i wouldn't get the Rav4 unless you want to drive around in a car that looks like a Sneaker.

Do you recommend the jeep? I think I'll go look at jeeps tomorrow.

With the volvo, I am leasing the car for 36 months, so all of the maintenance is covered...I have to only worry about oil changes and gas.

The Rav4 looking like a sneaker? Maybe...but a cute sneaker!

Any recommendations about a 4wd / awd vehicle?

Thanks! (btw...didn't you used to have the cowbell as your avatar?)

yeah, AWD....very fast...

i love mine, nothing like cruising down a highway in a downpour going 90mph

fun in the snow too

if you need the utility, go for the WRX wagon, the sedan's rear seats do not fold down for some gay reason....it's the only beef i have with the car

otherwise, it's fun to drive, well designed and comfortable, and they last forever

Insurance is higher for 4x4's AWD for a few reasons IMO

Higher cost to repair due to more stuff in the transaxle / suspension if you do wreck

People abuse them and tend to do stupid stuff that causes you to wreck like driving
too fast for conditions or driving off road and hitting trees.

The Insurance industry hasn't adjusted to the mindset of the Audi Quattro as an example that AWD can be safer on the road if driven within its capabilities.

Yea the Subu's are nice, but expensive and high insurance prem and ride pretty rough for a day to day commuter IMO.

And if you drive one you will start looking like wirey Lance Armstrong and your balls will get cancer. :)

That vovlo is sick, get the droptop. Your a girl right? the girls look good in the the droptops but itS hard to load the skis, have you thought about the toyota 4runner?

I found one that I liked. It's black with the premium package and climate package...heated seats, sun / moon roof, prem sound package...I love it.

What is a drop top?

The 4 runner is nice, but I am not ready to go to that size suv yet.

Basically, my story is that I just opened my own business. I need a car to go to and from work (about 20 miles /day). I have no life except for the business. It will be like this for the next year: I am here all the time!!! :)

ROFL!!!!!!! I hoped for that reaction! Ok. I'll change it again! lol

You changed it just because of me? That's pwnership.........STR8!!!

Only if you were trained this way sexually.

Oh sorry ...DUR.

The convertible is only in the series called S70. That car is considerably more expensive. It's a nice car and all, but money is a concern right now.

Big AAP........like his devil's advocate.....

I know it's crucial......everything hinges on this......the Gay Alpha-male vs. the Queen of SWV.

I would second that!

Instead of Rav4 (bare bones is cheap looking & loaded way over priced) and Jeep liberty (crap - hollow and tinny) look at VW Touareg or Lexus RX.

Thanks Velvett!

But I am weary about going with a vw...at all. I know that I am only leasing, but I had 2 lemon vws in the past. I put SO MUCH MONEY into those 2 freaking new vw's...more than those damned cars were worth (in maintenance costs). I will never look at vw the same way.

Lexus' are really nice cars. That's a thought.

Really, bummer.
Yah, I'd be weary too then.

why get a car on lease, when you could purchase the car, and get it for the same payments? with most leases, you only get 12000 miles per year. the average american drives well over that, and the price per mile is outrageous. personally, i think you should get a truck. but that's just me. check out the new dakota's. they are hella tight.

Best suggestion, although it really wasn't a suggestion. The 1.8T Quattro will fit the bill for you perfectly. Although leasing is a horrible idea (unless you are writing it off) If you want to buy, I have an 03' 3.0 Quattro in Gray, and an 04' 1.8T Quattro in white....... ;)
