Help! I Tore My Shoulder Muscle.

Ok here's the deal. 5 Months ago I was doing underhand pull-ups in my apartment when my son ran and jumped on me as I was half way pulling up.

It didn't hurt at the time but a couple days later I noticed the pain. I didn't think much of it because I've had similar injuries before that go away in a few days, or a few weeks at most.

Well its been 5 months now and it still hurts when I try to extend my arm vertically from the ground straight out to the side.

It doesn't hurt unless I make this specific motion. I cant tell if its hurting on the outside of my arm where the muscles meet at the point or if its more towards the front.

I have been lifting 3 days a week over the past 5 months with emphasis on the triceps and biceps but it doesn't hurt unless I specifically raise my arm out.

I work as a freelance web designer and don't have insurance (and with the economy barley can pay the bills) so going to the doctor is not an option at this point, it would take several months for me to save up enough money to visit one.

My question is should I be scared? Is this too long for a muscle to be hurt? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Ice? Make a homemade sling?

I tried to not use it as much as possible but there is always a situation where it got agitated (such as shutting the tailgate on my ford explorer.)

I'm assuming that these times are the reasons the healing was prolonged. I get two different answers from people that seems to be the opposite advice so it makes no sense to me.

One guy will say to put it in a sling and ice it, and it will be healed in a month. Another person will say to use it with light bands at the gym so that it will rebuild.

The past few days I've been lifting it a few times a day to try and "build" it. I doubt I could use bands yet as it still hurts when I just raise it alone.

I'm really scared of this guys. I have been lifting for 2 years now trying to reach that "plateau" before I jump into anabolic and take my physique to the next level. Now with this injury I fear I will never be able to build my right shoulder to an aesthetically pleasing circumference as I hear war stories of people being screwed forever after such an injury.

Does anyone have experience with this type of injury? And are there any people that could lead the way on how to get this sucker healed?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You probably have some tight muscle or some scar tissue. Easy to fix but will be quite dibilitating until you get the right treatment.

Go see an ART practitioner or an osteopath and get the tight muscles rubbed out.

Should be nothing to worry about.

Check out DieselCrew.com on their training forum for injuries. They have 2 YouTube videos on Shoulder Rehab that work GREAT!

Well, since nobody is sure what type of injury it actually is, go see a specialist and get it scanned. If you stretched or tore a ligament, you might pretty well be fu#&ed. If it's just a muscle pull or minor tear, you'll be fine.

We're not doctors. Go see a doctor. IDK why people insist on asking a bunch of blockheads (like myself) on the internet about medical advice. We don't know anything about that stuff, and speculating about it does no good.

Now, if you need someone to help you piece together a great diet and routine, there are plenty of bro's here to help you out with that.

yep pissing in the wind. if you are in the u.s. go spend a day in a free clinic or go to the e.r. the er cant refuse you. you can set up a low like 25.00 per month payment plan. do what you have to do to see a doctor. while your waiting stop trying to treat it yourself you may be making it worse.

Any idea of how long it would take to heal this type of injury?

Mine felt immediately better after ONE session. And was pretty much fixed i 3 sessions - one per week. My shoulder had been killing me for a year and my dumbfuck doctor didn't have a clue.
