MY doctor thinks I have a hernia on my right side of my body, It looks swollen but no pain, anyways I see a specialist next friday!
anyone else ever had one? how long am I out from lifting? surgery paiful? thanks
hey bro, don't worry : I was operated several years ago...not very painful surgery...I think you should stay away from lifting for 6-8 weeks
don't hesitate and if you're afraid of general anesthsia then I believe you should ask a local one...
The same thing just happend to my friend a few weeks ago... Like Mike said, expect to be out of the gym for 6-8 weeks post-surgery. Try to get the procedure done as soon as possible, sometimes there is waiting lists so don't sit around waiting.
THanks for the help, THis sucks becuase I just came off my cycle a month ago and NOw if I have to take 2 mos off from the gym I am fucked!!! any suggestions? I will probably have to rethink my diet??
If you want to avoid going under the knofe I would recommend you find a good prolotherapy doc and see if he can help. Prolotherapy originanted from sclerotherapy which was commonly used for treating hernia's. Find a doc at getprolo.com
i had an umbilical hernia operated on last feb. i got the mesh. i was out of the gym about 2 weeks then went back and avoided any exercises that put pressure on my abdomin and then was back 100% in another 2 weeks. it was kind of a fast recovery compared to what i have read, but maybe i was just lucky.
The operation itself is very quick and fairly painless. The recovery period ranges from 3-8 weeks. Depending on the size of the hernia and success of the surgery.
Any serious lifting should be avoided until the pain subsides. A very common occurence is another hernia popping up shortly after the first is removed.
Be sure to speak with the specialist and take his advice.
thanks for the help, My apt is tomorow, Hopfully my muscle memory will kick in after recovery, the only thing I am afraid of is getting super fat and soft
I just had a bi-lateral hernia operated on in september. ( yes bi as in two hernias) It took me a full six weeks to recover and I too had the surgical mesh used in the repair. The doc said that the mesh will not only help it heal faster and stronger, but it will also help eliminate a reaccurance in that spot. I was originally planning on just getting local anesthesia (spelling), but they told me that it would be much easier to get a combination of it and general. They gave me a general anestheaia to disorient me; they told me that I would come in and out of consciousness, but I would not remember anything. The local was just for the pain in the area of repair. The anesthesia I had was not a completely general so they didn't need to use a catheder. (which I was very relieved to learn) Ask your doc about the combination anesthesia. The surgery went extremely well and I have no recolection of being conscious during the operation. It is just like going to sleep for a little bit. The first thing the nurses told me as they woke me up is that they hoped that I would have fun in Florida. I was a little confused, but they told me that I was talking to them during the operation, and that they didn't expect me to remember telling them about the trip I planned. Trust me bro you are going to want more than just local. Oh and one more thing, the first 3-4 days are the worst. Its is tough to do anything when your entire abdominal area hurts. Stay away from any funny movies or TV shows for a week too. I hope this gave you a little more insight. Good luck
dont sweat it man i had one last summer it wasn't sooo bad a simple surgery then i was out of the gym for like 3 weeks no biggy any other questions on the topic feel free to PM me glad to help goodluck man...
