headaches during squats

i know im not the only one this happens to, and im thinking its a blood pressure thing, but alot of the time when i squat, i get a pounding headache, and sometimes feel slightly nauseas. can anyone else gimme some info to as why this might happen?
thanks folks!

Could possibly be the way that you are holding your neck when you do them too...just a thought.

Make sure you don't push back with your head puts to much stress on your neck....

Do you have sinus problems could be extra pressure from blood adding to existing pressure..

I get headaches when I lift when I'm dehydrated. So make sure you are drinking LOTS of water. It also helps to breathe.

i dont lift on an empty stomach, i drink plenty of water... when i lift, i get dizzy sometimes, i think its a blood thing tho, not a breathing thing. after a few sets, when im on the my few reps, i usually feel kinda dizzy.. i dont know if this is tied into my headaches either. could be a sinus pressure thing, but i dont know, anymore suggestions?

Could be a lot of things, Check your breathing. Do inhale going down and exhale going up? That's how I used to breathe when I squat. Used to get light headed and sometimes end up with headaches. Now I take 2-3 big breathes before I go down and I hold my breath as I lift. After I come up to the starting position, then I let all the air out and take big breaths again. I find that my muscles get enough oxygen when I do that. Bigger/heavier lefts require more oxygen some times. That was my case :-D

I think i know what ur talkin about...

I used to get the same thing. Feels like something inside your head is gonna burst right? Its from improper breathing. Someone caught me not breathing because i was straining so hard. I thought it was just normal. When i started breathing properly during my sets, it went away. Never had the problem again.

not breathing properly could be it. I always get a little lightheaded after a heavy squat set. feels like my legs are about to give out. but i dont think ive ever felt anything in my head. try breathing heavily while your doing ur exercises.

I had the same exact problem before. It was definitly breathing for me. I got this on all the big lifts (squats, deads, and bench). Then I focused on how I would breathe and I got it fixed out and no more headaches.

I guess I'll just add to the posts to further confirm that incorrect breathing is most likely the culprit. I had the same problem and it was because I was holding my breath all the way from the eccentric right through the concetric phase of the lift. Furthermore, I was on Xenadrine at the same time, which didn't help.

if it wasn't hard and painful everyone would have huge quads! Squat big!
