Anybody? Shot in the dark. Especially in the prosumer market.

Geek talk. Afterwards, we can talk about tits.

Prosumer versions typically do not have "night shot" features, if that's what you are referring to. The HDR-FX1 I shoot with, and the HVR-Z1U that I also use, have excellent low-light level sensors though.

We also use several kinds of on-camera lighting. What specific question do you have?

The V1U is light years ahead of the FX1, i don't know about the Z1U.

I'm looking at a Canon XH A1. For HDV 720p 30p coverage. I'd scale it down to 24p later on since I don't believe it can tape in 24p onto minidv tape. I hear it's not great on balance tho, so i'm gonna get a shoulder-carrying rig. Rendering to H.264 on a system is insane - so i'm gonna capture as HDV, and render to AVI. Makes editing faster. I can convert to MPeg-2 and then burn to Blu-Ray later on.

Lighting: Do you mean those are bad in low-light conditions? I'd use Adobe OnLocation to pull up a histogram to check lighting on a laptop. Assuming the camera doesn't have it built-in. I know the Canon HV20, the HD little brother, does.

I'm borrowing my friends lighting rig. Apparently it works for him and i trust him. His work is good.

Not sure I agree with that. In some respects/features it is, but I prefer the greater amount of light that the larger lens lets in on the FX1 and Z1U.

On the Sony V1U you can, not sure about the Canon's though.

On a fast machine (I recommend VelocityMicro.com) it's not necessary to render to the intermediate files (AVI). But if you're on a single proc 3.0GHZ or slower, I'd probably recommend it, yes.

No, I meant that the FX1 and Z1U are very good in low light conditions. They make your job easier, which is always a good thing. :)

Cool - good luck to you!

I'm gonna order the RedRock M2 35mm unit for my Canon XH A1 HDV. It looks so bad-ass.

I'm gonna borrow my 3-point lighting from my former tv network I used to work at. Very pro.

thanks.
