just like drinking took practice, doing things sober does too. I used to feel like my life would never be the same, it was totally centered around alcohol, or alcohol being included in the activity. I felt like nothing would be as fun, ie, dancing, fishing, sports activities, etc, they all were someplace that I had gotten buzzed or drunk for 25 years or more, now I was talking about doing them w/o alcohol, didn't seem like it would be fun anymore and I just chose to not do them. Sex was the single biggest concern, sex w/o alcohol is awkward for awhile, at least it was for me. That was the thing that took the longest to get into the swing of, especially if your still dating, with an so/ wife, it changes but they roll with it too. In all honesty, some things STILL aren't, like going to clubs, so I don't do the club scene anymore, But all the rest, after I had been to a ballgame and drank soda water or fishing and just took Gatorade, it just became normal to not be buzzed, I was really freaked about it for nothing.
It was funny for awhile to tell people "no, but I'll take a coke/tea/ water" when they asked if I'd like a beer/ drink. You get some laughs at firts, but they pretty quickly stop asking, some even join you in something else. Like you said, it's pretty much habbit...
Try it for a month or two, to see what you think...
