Have you ever had a sales job?

I was a stockbroker for a few years. Stockbrokers are just salesmen...most of them couldn't care less if they were selling stocks or widgets. It's the money or the deal that drives them. It gave me ulcers in my 20's and that was the end of that.

yea i was in sales.... on the street corner in new york...

When I was living in a podunk part of SC I was desperate for work that I agreed to take a sales position, a shitty one at that. We would have to go to these tiny, dirty towns and go business to business trying to get these inbreeds to buy cheep ass jewlrey for way too much money, fuggin sucked.

The worst part was that my boss was one of those extremely fake, overly excited sales types and every morning before we left the office he would blast eye of the tiger and make us all give him hi-fives on our way out the door. Man, that was terrible.

If you have/had a sales job you must have heard or noticed these:

It's all about the #'s
Your only as good as your last month
"Make it happen"
Once you hit quota it's still not good enough

One of my first jobs, I worked in the shoe dept. at a local clothing store. It sucked major ass. Shoe sales were down bigtime, or so i was told by the manager on several occasions. I simply would not solicit sales. If a customer needed help, I would help them, other than that I stood behind my counter and fucked off. I just wasnt cut out for sales cause I take no for an answer.

Are pharmaceutical sales the same as the sales yall speak of?

worse. Doctors hate reps, usually don't even stay in the office for them.

If you actually have a good product it isn't that bad. Take the company I work for, they sell ad space in yellow pages type book to businesses. The customers love it. In many cases they call us to send over a sales rep because they are afraid maybe we skipped over them somehow in the territory...

I used to sell high end electronics - I was the "low pressure" guy, I acted like I didn't care if you bought anything so they trusted my reccomendations. Big mistake on their part. My job was to suck as much money as I could out of their pockets and make sure they didn't bring any of the crap back.

I know I will always have a job if I ever get laid off.
