Has this happened to you?

I was in the gym the other day doing arms and this heavy set guy approaches me and asked me if I could use a training partner? I was polite and told him sorry but I already have 2 of them. (which is true)

But it just bothered me that some slob would approach me and ask me if "I" needed a training partner. Shouldn't it have been me asking him??????

Give me your thoughts.

I would take it as a compliment! Think about it, he wants to train with YOU. Meaning he must think you look like you know what you are doing and probably just wants to pick up some tips on how he too can look better. I think thats more of a compliment than anything. :)

Either way though, you handled the situation well by telling him the truth and not leading him on with some bs "Yeah sure, next time bro!". Now if he bothers again, just be honest once more, but just with a little more 'force'. :)

Never happened to me but i get asked all the time what muscle does that work. i am fairly rude with strangers and dont look happy. it helps prevent being approached which i hate. wait til i am done lifting if_u wanna ask something.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I agree 100% wait till Im done lifting before you ask me a question. I love when doing a heavy set on the sled and somebody walks up (rep 5) boy I bet that's heavy.......Ya think so......PISSES ME OFF!

As far as the compliment goes I never really thought about it that way. Good point!

some people dont look at it as in depth as us hardcore bodybuilders do,,,especailly the average joe.

No it hasn't happend to me but on the same level, do you see people staring at you through the mirrors all the time? I don't know whether to be pissed or feel good about it.

Hasn't happened to me and I hope it doesn't. I don't like training with partners, they become a pain in the arse after a while.

I actually dont mind... maybe because it hardly ever happens but if someone wants to work in or work out with me that day I am all for it. I like helping people out, plus I got a spotter for the day which means I can go heavy as I can. Unless you have a big competition coming up I dont see why be a dick about it, not saying that you did bowtech, you actually did it nicely. I hate seeing other guys live up to the roid rageing idiot the media sets us up as. just my 2cc

Well he probably sees that you are where he wants to be.

Thats the best was to learn is ask someone thats there.

I wish i could find a training partner. I need someone to spot me on my drop sets so I can start to really grow.

I talk to a few ppl at the gym but none I feel comfortable asking.

Back to your situation though bro maybe he is serious bout changing the way he is living and figures why not ask someone that is where I want to be.

completely agree on this... i need to kno u b4 i trust u with couple hundred pounds ovr my head

you are all a bunch of uptight insecure faggots.

personally, if someone asks me a question about anything in the gym it makes me feel awsome about myself. i have headphones in my ears and just ignore someone if they are trying to bother me during a set, and have no problem "leading by example", and explaining im on a strict rest schedule and will answer them after this next set or exersise.

i lift because i love the lifting lifestyle and everything about it though, not because i wanan get in, get out, have the perfect body then get laid

I have people ask for advice now and then but never had anyone ask about being a training partner. Of course I am one of the few powerlifters in a prissy bodybuilding gym.

lol....I think they would get more of a workout taking on and off the weights from your weight to theirs than their actual workout. I have trained with a few powerlifters in the past and some are crazy strong! Real cool guys though.

LOL. Honestly I haven't met very many pler's who aren't cool. It's a very supportive group to hang with. We all just like to see people lift big weight.
