Has soccer ever been discussed on Elite? At all?

The real way I found Elite three or four or whatever years ago was by searching for a bodybuilding board (after getting tired of the one I was on) in Altavista.com One of the search results on the first page (I don't remember what string I used) mentioned soccer, and since I used to play in Europe I clicked on it; it took me to the Anabolic board.

I have never seen soccer discussed or even mentioned anywhere around here.

What's up with that?

you mean football. not soccer

Before my time

and he´s got kind of a forced hero status because he got injured in a career ending way at his peak.

like james dean and marilyn monroe being hot forever, or kurt cobain or jim morrison being anything but druggies with issues.

He´s definately got skills. He´s the coach of our national team now. He´s cool. He took a whole bunch of guys out of the selection, simply stating they had an attitude and thought too highly of themselves to function in the team. Some of these earn millions a year and were really humiliated. Fun.
He simply stated hed rather work with a young promising talent without any spurs that would listen to him, than with an overpaid, jaded piece of attitude thinking about his next bonus from his international big team.

He´s also sounds strangely coherent for a pro athlete. Most drool their way through interviews in little logic-circles.

God! if hes before your time, how young are you! LOL!! jesus christ, either that or i must be geting old!

Ya know when I was on my honeymoon in costa rica, soccer was on just about every channel on the tv. I really started getting into it even when I got back home.

After blessing Fox for starting a soccer channel, I started wondering why it isn't aired that much on other channels.

I may be way off on this one but I think one of the main reasons why it isn't hyped as much in the US is because corporations can't make as much money on it compared to other sports. Think about it, every major sport in the US has Timeouts and television breaks. Soccer doesn't allow such a thing unless it's halftime. Now since most of the money made by tv channel is through sponsorships, and those sponsorships are generally through commercials, the channels have no way of making much money.

Sure the adverts on the walls of the field show some sponsorship but not the way commercials do.

anyway that's my theory [/take off tinfoil cap]

Most popular sport in the world and the US has to be all stubborn about it. Even Pele couldn´t get it to catch on.

The real reason is that soccer isn´t useful enough for American media. Two halves of 45 uninterrupted minutes. Where the fuck are you supposed to stick the 50 commercials you need in a sports game- just the 10 minute halftime break isn´t enough. Baseball and basketball and football have lots of separate plays and timeouts etc etc.

One goal should give the team 7 points!!!!
