All throughout high school I had it easy. Academically, everything was a piece of cake. I didn't have to work all that hard and the good results rolled in.
Three years later, I've been brought back down to earth. This year I started a very competitive double degree and its been anything but easy. I have to work for every last grade. Rather than standing out at the top of the bunch I'm just struggling along like everybody else.
At each rung of the ladder the challenges are greater. Everything is harder. You have to become harder and work your ass off to be better than the rest and continue climbing the ladder... I'm only just coming to terms with this and its not easy.
The same applies to training, sports and life in general. If you want to keep excelling you can't afford to rest on your laurels and bask in past achievements. A PR is nice, but only momentarily...
