I know that there are many more good dads on here, but those immediately came to mind.

Happy Father's Day.

Here is to all the good, hard working, respectful and kind men in the world!

"I watched a small man with thick calluses on both hands
work fifteen and sixteen hours a day. I saw him once
literally bleed from the bottoms of his feet, a man who
come here uneducated, alone, unable to speak the language,
who taught me all I needed to know about faith and hard
work by the simple eloquence of his example."

You have a son? I didn't know that.

oh Hell yeah, 9 years old, a hockey/baseball playin' son-of-a-gun. I coach him in baseball, we'er 5-0 this season, he is our starting SS and closer. He plays up an age group in both sports. Last year he led the team in batting average and OBP as an 8 year old in the 9-10 div. He is at the top again this year with 5 more games to play. As our closer, he has pitched 200 pitches with a 5/1 strike to ball ratio.
More importantly, he's a really good kid, never a cross word or problem from him. He loves school, just a delite to have as a son.

Hey, another sports parent! Youth sports can be a great thing, but some of the parents are fucking nuts. I've done a bit of coaching in soccer and basketball and love it. The parents can be a pain in the ass however.
The one thing to watch out for is letting winning get in the way of player development. Especially at that age.

yep! I've been a coach for 5 years, seen plenty of bad behavior. I push my son but am careful not to make him dread going to practice or play anything that he doesn't want to. He just loves to be with the other kids and has a blast. Not to say he doesn't have his days, we love to fish and to get him off the water to go practice can be a chore sometimes.
I guess the bigest gripe that I have are the parents who obviously push the kid to play a sport, then don't spend the necessary time with him to get him better.

Yeah, I've had that problem. It takes more than a couple of practices a week with the team for a kid to improve. It's fucked how few parents actually take their kid out and throw a ball around.
Does he only play baseball? If so you should encourage him to try another sport too. It helps keep their interest up, and cross training is good for em anyway.

sure, he's a ice hockey monster. He plays forward (left wing). I'm president to the Central Texas Youth Hockey Assoc. Unfortunately, we lost our ice time for the past season and this one too. I'm working with the Armed Forces YMCA and a congressman to get the funds appropriated for a rink. It looks like if everything goes as planned, we'll have ice in 08'.
He has played since he waas 5, loves it more than baseball, just have the ice problem right now. Any ice around here is at a premimum, most rinks are booked solid from 5:00am to late at night everyday. Austin, where they do have some ice, is too far for us to go, it's 2 hours w/o traffic. They wanted him to play but he didn't want to commit to the drive time on Saturdays. We skated at Texas A&M last year, but they only have in-house teams, he is used to traveling all over the state for tournaments, that didn't appeal to him.

Wow, ice hockey in texas, who'd a thunk it? That's pretty cool. Maybe you should move up north, it'd be pretty fun to be able to play on a frozen lake.
