Hang Snatch

Are you doing some Hang Snatch or power Snatch ?

What would be the benefits for a non-powerlifter to incorporate this movement in the routine ?

All I know is that when I competed at powerlifting, I never met anyone that incorporated Olympic lifts into their routines. I snatch variations were of any use to a powerlifter, I am sure that they would have been included in the numerous Westside videos I have seen over the years.
I am not saying that snatch variations are not a worthwhile exercise, they work well for O-lifters who need to build explosive strength related to their competitive movements.
So, I made the crack about injuries because the times I have seen an O-lifter workout, the lifts looked extremely technical, and thus I would not recommend for anyone that is a powerlifter, or especially a bodybuilder. :chomp:

BUMP for some Powerlifter's opinion :)

What do you hope to get out of them?

they are mostly done for power and explosivness, but you may get some trap stimulation and they do hit the shoulders hard

but there are better ways to go for growth

1] power
2] balance
3] working the auxiliary muscles that are not recruited on machines / exercices where you're sitting on a bench

I still do not believe that the Olympic Lifts are the most effective and efficient ways to build strength or applicable power for the athlete.

I've been doing the Hang Snatch for the past 3-4 weeks now...just to have another exercise where I'm holding something over my head. It has been difficult for me to do overhead presses since I've moved so the Hang Snatch has helped a little with my goals.

Dangerous? I don't really see how.

Technique, not strength, is key in these exercises. I did a fairly easy 216 Hang Snatch on Monday (after jerks and log clean and press) and technique is the only thing holding me back from a much bigger number.

Ohh...I know VERY few powerlifters who do the Olympic Lifts. Why? They are not the most effective and/or efficient way for them to build the power that they need.

PLrs focus on bench, squat, deadlift, not oly lifts... however, they also do assistance exercises to help those lifts like close grip bench(bench), good mornings and cleans(deadlift), and box squats(squats).

OK guys

I'll stick with the basics (squat, DL, GMs,...)
Thx :)

Agree totally...because they are the most effective and efficient ways to build strength for their needs.
