Handicap Parking.........

I want to scream when I see able bodies parking in the handicap parking.
Does anyone ever approach people that do this and say something?
Or does anyone park in these spots if they are not suppose to?

I once saw some "C" in a black Mercedes (rich ppl feel they are better) that parked in the handicap spot at the grocery store. When I saw her inside. I went right up to her and said "Funny, you don't look handicap, but maybe it's mental and I cannot see it"

I'm fairly sure you could get one of those stickers if you simply print out this thread and hand it to any government official or anyone working at the DMV.

oh yeah....i used to work in a small office building, where there was also an office for a state congress rep, she would park her shiney beamer in the handicapped spot every single day. and no she was not handicapped.

you know, a simple call to the NON emergency police # will remedy that. It's an instant high dollar ticket. I've called the cops on a few people doing that and 2 of them got tickets right before my eyes. It think I got kinda lucky though as a cop must of been in the area.

I do not hesitate to call the cops for people doing stupid things. I love it when the go screaming by on the freeway or tailgate you flashing brights and what not, as soon as I get on the cell phone, they seem to slow down a little bit or give me the wave.

However just because you look able bodied doesn't mean your not intitalled to a handcap placard.
A co-worker of mine has diabetes, is 44 and looks mostly normal (kinda pale always) and recently had stints placed in the arteries of both of his legs. While recovering his doctor issued him a temp placard. Some snoopy ass saw us walking from a handicap stall an just had to share his ignorance with us.
If you're going to confront someone, at least make sure you got your facts right.

They give these stickers to deaf ppl in Quebec...how pathetic!

what pisses me off more than that is limiting an entrance or exit to handicapped people only.

A door at my gym is the only one accessible from one side - but other doors arent *too* far off. It says "handicapped only please" - I always use it anyway. Lets break down the logic here: Inconvience 95% of the population for this 5% who barely come to the gym anyway? Fuck that.

very true...there are several reason as to why handicap placards are issued ...if you can walk normally doesnt mean you cant be disabled..

I know what I am talking about because I researched and as of now I have a temporary disabled placard due to surgery at my achilles tendon that made me unable to walk for at least 2 more months..

You can get a disabled placard for lungs related problems,cardiovascular disease,cenral visual acuity problems besides those with mobility issues....so it will be hard to make a fair assesment based on a visual info only...

every once in awhile things work themselves out. I watched a guy park in the handicapped space at a grocery in Houston. He jumped out of his car and went in. Meanwhile, a van with a lift came and wanted to park but there were no spaces. It made a couple of rounds around the parking lot to see if any would open up but they didn't. I'm thinking that this asshole should be back pretty quick and his spot will be open. But instead, the van stops behind the guys car and proceeds to put the lift down. It's taking a long time because the driver can barely walk. The guy finally burst out the door looking to tell somebody off for blocking him in when the guy, holding on to the van, walks around the back of the van and proceeds to get into his wheelchair. The guy just wheels right by the guy and never says a word even though he sees that the guy is ready to leave. I thought the asshole was going to say something to him and it was going to be on, but he didn't, he just sat down in his car and didn't say shit. I left, but the only thing that could have happened was he had to sit there till the guy finished shopping. Sometimes, things just work out....

my grocery store has special parking for pregnant women and women with small children.
its not a LAW that you have to be one of those, but the sign says something like "preferred".
so when i was on crutches after my surgery, i parked there. i couldn't walk across a whole parking lot, and BFD, i wasn't pregnant, but it was OBVIOUS that i was temporarily retarded.

some man yelled at me.

i was like, "are you kidding me?" as i'm walking with one foot in a cast.

then i threw a frozen turkey at him. ok, that last part didn't happen. and maybe he didn't really YELL, but he wasn't nice.

I don't feel guilty about it either. At least I can park there legally. Use that sucker at the beach to park for free too.

Why should I you ask? Look at my post above. My niece and her Mom have a hard time finding handicap parking b/c of ppl that abuse the system.
Your Dr is a jerk and one does not have to be a DR to see that there are abusers of the system.

You have missed the entire point of what I have posted.

If you find someone parked there without a sticker, by all means act upon it.

But if someone is parked there with a sticker.... just who are you to determine whether they are justified in having it or not?

What qualifications do you hold to determine who is able bodied or not? You hold none. You are simply guessing. You know nothing about the person or their medical history except they "parked there" and you don't like it.
