hamstring tear mid-cycle

I tore my hamstring, the trainer said it was a grade 2 tear so it is still connected to the bone but the muscle is torn. the trainer said it should take four to eight weeks to heal right. I was taking eq fina and test and I'm almost positive it was the fina that made me too strong. i tore it doing sprints. I've got to heal up quick but i want it to heal right. would running 2 grams of deca a week be benficial to recovery time, or is there another roid i should take to heal up, because this is mid cylce and i'm going to stay on.

Bro, the same thing happened to me this summer. I was only using Test Prop, but I also hadn't sprinted in a LONG time. I tore BOTH my hamstrings in midstride and hit the pavement at full speed.

I'm not sure about AAS and their affects on healing. However, I HIGHLY reccommend looking into Active Release Treatments. (rf. www.t-mag.com, search "Real Miracle Worker). I have used this treatment for a variety of injuries, including a dislocated shoulder. It is the best injury treatment going, WITHOUT A DOUBT. And I base this on years of competetive athletics with the top trainers in the country looking out for me. My hamstrings were BAD 2nd degree tears... almost 3rd degree. I was back in about 3-4 weeks instead of the 6-8 it should have taken.

oh yeah.... a 3rd degree tear doesn't mean the muscle has pulled away from the bone. that would be a tendon tear. a 3rd degree muscle tear just means that the fibers have come completely apart from one another, which leaves a divit in the muscle. in this case, you NEVER quite get back to full strength. a 2nd degree tear means there fibers have been stretched and pulled apart quite a bit, but some integrity remains between fibers. just for you info. :)

I tore mine pretty bad 3 weeks into my tren/winny/susp cycle this summer (could not kick leg back, had/have noticible lump of scar tissue in muscle). Today was the first time I've been able to sprint (was out about 10 weeks total). At first, since I was still on cycle, I decided to work around it and focused more on the heavy quad based movements I could do. This was a mistake, because I was just worsening the muscle imbalance. When I went off stuff 6-7 weeks ago I decided to stop training quads (except for lunges once in a while) and just worked on hamstring rehab. This really seemed to help alot.

I know that since you are still on stuff you will want to train all the leg lifts you can still do.... just remember that overly strengthening the quads will make the problem worse. The three fastest guys I have trained with all kept the volume and intensity of hamstring work higher than that for quads. I never saw these guys on a leg press or leg extension machine.

It is a misconception that the quad:hamstring strength ratio (imbalance) is what affects hamstring pulls. It is actually the ratio of one hamstring to another which has the greatest impact.

If your right hamstring has only 75% of the strength of your left hamstring, your are in danger of pulling your right hamstring.

But just because you have really strong quads doesn't necessarily mean you are in danger of injuring your hamstrings, as long as your hammys have respectable development and are balanced between one another.
