Popped my left hamstring this evening doing deadlifts. Proper warm up, stretching, working up to my working set weight, good form, felt well rested - can't believe I did everything right and this happened. Feeling quite frustrated - every time I try to take things to the next level, there is an injury. I'm 36 and every year I've experienced some injury in the past couple of years. I've been lifting for over 10 years - I think I'm quite experienced but I like to lift heavy.
My question is - (i) how long before I can get back into the gym. I can walk on it, no visible swelling, just feel it pulling when I strech it. Doc checked it out and said I had strength bending it both the knee and the hip. Never had a hamstring injury in my life.
(ii) How can avoid these injuries - massage, accupunture, I've stayed clean - never used gear. I'm 5'8 - 190 lbs dry - maybe this is as big I'm going to get and I should go into lifetime maintenance now and not try to get bigger.
I appreciate your suggestions/advice. Thanks,
