It's overhyped for sure, but it'll still be pretty damn good.

Walmart has been advertising it heavily in this region...

Some dude posted up on a gaming board of it plastered across the front page of his local news paper. MS viral marketing for ya, and it appears to be working. It already had a million preorders. I prefer a lukewarm hype to games, since then if it is good it seems that much more impressive.

Meh...I got so sick of waiting for H3 that I lost interest.

Are you serious?

1. This is actually a very quick release considering it's such a big title. Lots of big games take much longer after their announcement to actual release.

2. Plus it's releasing in Sept which is rare....they usually wait until winter and holidays are here.

3. Also, this game has not been delayed like the majority of games are nowadays.

4. Go play your Wii little boy.

I was surprised at the marketing of this game.

Numerous commercials including ones like Pontiac, Special Halo Pepsi and food products, Posters, etc. Heck even Futureweapons on Discovery had Special Halo sponsored shows.

That's a good sign that this game does indeed deliver.
:)
I will find out tonight at midnight. :)

Sucks to be a Sony fanboy *hansel* right now.

Yeah I do want to get Halo 3. My buddy's got it preordered so at least I can try it for a while.
If the new 65nm Xbox's are going to be as reliable as the PS3, as quiet, have an internet browser for when my PC is down, have free online service, swapable SATA harddrives, wifi, full backwards compatibility for when I'm craving old school gaming, and MS gets the rights to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 with no hardware-limiting sacrifices, then I suppose I'll have little reason to keep my PS3. :)

I could've also mentioned BluRay movies and Folding @ Home, but I rarely use either one.

Haha, it's actually held my interest more than Gears of War did, plus it's for something useful. There's enough to do on the PS3 in a game drought. Without good games where would the 360 be?

Sometimes I consider ditching consoles altogether and getting a good pc rig for playing all the good fps titles. I tried Half Life 2 and it ran pretty choppy. I'll probably play it again someday when I upgrade my specs.

meh...not me, I have a 55in wide screen HDTV, id much rather play on it than my 17 in monitor. Plus I hate using a mouse and KB.

I really wish the PS3 would step up in the games dept....it does have some interesting stuff to it, media, blue tooth.built in wifi, Blue Ray.

I just cant see dropping $500 + tax + what ever accessories I might need for a system with no games.

Halo3 was never delayed, Frodo. You may be thinking of "speculating" which a lot of people/writers/reporters/ do.

You go by what the developer (Bungie) says. They officially announced Sept 25 as the launch date and they made/kept that date.

btw, This game lives up to the hype.

It's leagues above Gears Of War.

Me and a buddy played 4 levels of the campaign yesterday and wow it was never dull (perhaps the weed helped)

Two thumbs way up.

I considered buying a ps3 and I ran across some disappointing info.

There's apparently some problem with the ps3 not working right right wight "older" HDTV's. some combination of resolutions or some shit wont work right or get the graphics "down converted" to a standard tv res???

I have an older HDTV that is 1080i only wide screen..will it not play right on that??

They fixed that with a firmware update. I can play Bluray movies and games in 720p on my tv, which only goes up to 1080i (720p native).

hmmm...with Halo 3 dropping MS is going to pick up even more steam would should prompt Sony to cut the price to compete.

Yeah Sony definitely needs to amp up their strategy for this holiday season. Sales won't get much better if all remains constant. I'd say offer the 80gig version for $500, HDMI cables included, not some game people could take or leave. 40gig for $400. They pretty much have to, as their first price drop proved that such a thing helps sales nearly exponentially. They will be in a pretty tough position if they wait until March when MGS4 is released. Better to build up the install base sooner.

Well damn. Me and my buddy beat this game last night.

IT IS TOO FREAKIN SHORT. Sadly, that seems to be the trend for developers nowadays. It took us 9 hours on heroic difficulty.

I will have to retract my earlier statement in this thread somewhat because the next to last level is not fun. The story gets dumb and the ending was a letdown for me.

The first several levels were spectacular though. Large open environments with nice battles, nice scenery, and action.

I give this game a 9.2/10 after completing it.

I never had a problem with mine....then again I only had it for a month or so. I'll probably get another one once MS takes care of the problem at its source. Something tells me though that they should've stuck to making software. Sony clearly has the superior piece of hardware, all things considered (memory contraints/overly complex memory architecture, rushed graphics chip).....now it's just a matter of getting more games.

Not really, Sony had a shit load of 1st generation PS2's go bad.

I was talking about the PS3. Yes the PS2 had disc read problems, but nothing I ever experienced, or anyone else I knew who had one.

Disc read error

Owners of early PS2 models purchased from launch until spring 2003 often reported faulty optical drives in their consoles. The earliest drives suffered from a constantly misaligning laser lens, but later defects were the result of a shift in voltage to the laser. The first problem was easily remedied by opening the console's casing and tweaking a cog that controlled the lens' distance from the disc. However, this action voided the console's warranty. The second problem could be fixed by using an oscillator. After many consoles had broken down, a class action lawsuit was filed against Sony. Sony agreed to provide free repair or replacement for the faulty consoles and continued to do so until February 2005.[15]

Another problem that could cause a disc read error is wear on the coupling in the head assembly to the worm gear that moves the laser. A symptom of this is a loud repetitive clicking sound. However, this problem rarely occurs on newer consoles.[citation needed]

The first Xbox also had disc read problems though,

but again I never had a problem with mine.

That's the reason I sold mine...mine never fucked up even once but everybody I know had theirs mess up AT LEAST ONCE, more often than not they had to send it in a few times.

The xbox360 was/is a cool system with good games and online play but the failure rate is totally unacceptable.

I have a feeling that Sony may step up, drop the price again and over take M$.

But I'm not buying a ps3 unless they fix their gigantic "1080i" problem. I'm not about to drop $500-$600 + tax on a High def machine that wont display HD on my tv.

I'm getting tired of all the beating around the bush with this scaling bs too. At first Sony said they fixed the issue, then it turns out the fix is only for 1080i and game playback, not BluRay at 720p, which my tv's native display is in.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/ps3-firmware-1-30-fixes-1080i-problem/

As of firmware 1.80, they've fixed all scaling issues except the one most people were complaining about (720p Bluray).
I thought this whole issue was taken care of....turns out it may not even be fixable through software updates.

I played Halo 3 this weekend and am another step closer to getting a 360. If the hardware issues have been fixed, I'd rather have a 360 than a PS3. Seriously it's a well-built machine but so far it seems it's just been making mountains of obstacles out of what should've originally been molehills for both developers and users.

Actually from what I understand the "fix" only addresses PS2 games..NOT PS3 GAMES.

Fuck Sony..they're not getting my money if they fuck up simple shit like this, that means that half the peeps out there with a HDTV cannot utilize a PS3 in reguards to its high def aspect.

in other words my 55 in 16*9 wide screen 1080i HDTV will become a low rez piece of shit when I try to play a game or watch a Blue Ray movie.

Sony's response......upgrade and shell out more $$$ for a new tv so I can pay them $600 to play their machine.

I was actually seriously considering getting one until I read up on this issue.

So 1080i is your native res? As long as you have the 1080i option selected on the PS3 it will display that resolution, for Blu Ray movies. The games however have to state on the box that they support 1080i resolution to be playable in it.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/746/746492p2.html

If your only HD resolution is 1080i though, you're kinda out of luck, as 720p is the sweet spot for gaming these days on both systems, and will be for every game this generation at least.

Yeah its 1080i only...the xbox360 had no problem scaling to ANY resolution though. that's what agitates me.
