If you work out in a gym with bumper plates & the wood platform for oly lifting - is it considered OK to use that for dls?

i would say yes.....

but i've never trained at westside or anything

At my old gym we built a platform for use as both. It was a first come first serve basis so if you were deadlifting and someone wanted to do oly lifts they could either get another bar and alternate with you or wait their turn.

I would think so...but I'd be sure to lower it under control. Although if the bar is being basically dropped from overhead during olympic lifting it propbably wont matter.

Speaking of gym ettiquite.

How do you folks feel about those people that work out RIGHT in front of the dumbell rack and then get all pissy when you try to reach for the dumbells in the middle of on of their sets?

Personally I think they should take the extra 2 seconds to "step away from the rack".

??

back AWAY from the mirrors! Of course, being the jerk I am I always reach for the dumbbells right in front of them.

me too. Get your weight, do your set and replace the DB's. As so far as lifting DL in oly space, do it, tell them to wait or work in, unless they are olympic hopeful's, then give them my address.

i'm a little more giving and considerate with that. if i was deadlifting on an oly platform, i'd finish my set and let them have it for a little while..

one reason may be that i'm just a nice guy, but most likely since i'm usually outweighed by around 50 lbs :p

As for the dumbell I just use the 80's and above that way most people aren't reaching for the dumbells in front of me :)

Good idea, I'll start doing that too then...

Yeah I noticed that too. I still do lateral raises for my shoulders, and some other lighter db stuff. But come to think of it you are right, when I get to the 70s, - 100s, it's never a problem.

Anyone of you guys workout in a gym with no area for deadlifting?

Here in my college town I just deadlift in front of the rack because there is no where else to do it.....but when I go home (like for spring break) I use the YMCA and there is absolutely no where to do it. They don't have any power racks.....the last time I just did them in a random ass spot on the floor......and felt like an oddball. Any suggestions?

at my school, there's no rack, nor any space on the floor. i take the bar off the bench, and do the lift in front of the bench.

besides, when everyone else is just doing bicep curls or something, just tell them to fuckkoff when you're doing your deads.

random ass spot will do just fine, thats kind of the nice thing about deads...just a loaded bar you gotta pick up.
:)

lola- do you train at Golds? the 'wood' platform is for deadifting- not oly lifts. The way Plrs drop the weight would ruin the platform...they always lift on matted floor.

Nah - I train at a college gym. Have yet to see anyone using the platform, maybe it's meant for dls.
