gym assholes

im just wondering how many people are with me here...but does anyone notice how there are assholes at the gym that always try to stare you down? shit is fucking annoying. ive always noticed that its either younger kids anywhere from 18-21 who flex all day or the big, 45 year old bald guys who bench press 1000lbs. a lot of my friends notice shit too like that when they go to the gym too. im in my mid 20s, im in good shape, fairly muscular, but i generally stay low key, say hi to a few people every once in a while and keep my head down and focus on my workouts, so i never do anything to warrant it. im just wondering, since the gym isn't a UFC ring, why so many guys get off on "stare downs" at the gym?

Probably just sizing you up to see what and how much you're lifting since they must feel intimidated by you.
The young ones want to be you and old ones are jealous 'cause you are younger I guess.
I can understand how that would be annoying.

I'm one of the guys who gets in, does my workout and gets out (Not a metaphor or analogy for anything). I don't really pay attention to what anyone else is lifting.

I don't get stared down, but I do get people watching when I lift. Especially when doing deads. If you can throw on a few plates, then people start taking notice. I think it's more so because people are uneducated and/or intrigued. They freak and think you're going to break in half when doing a big dead.

On a side note - this is a major reason why I prefer old-school, dirty gyms. The people are there to LIFT.

One of the gyms I trained at in the past (my favorite gym) closed down - but it had dust all over the ceiling fans, old-school equipment, a shit load of free weights and a stereo from the 80's. THAT is how I like to train.

I used to like it when I was stationed on an Aircraft Carrier and you get the weekend warriors in there thinking they are big and bad, well I would strap on a 45lb and a 25lb weight to a rope and do pull ups, these kids would laugh and giggle like little girls cause they didn't see the weight tucked behind my legz and saying look at that kid struggling, well after I knock out 15 or so, I'd jump down and jus to see there mouths drop that someone my size could knock that out.. They didn't look at me for the rest of the workout.. But yeah once some douche is in the gym it's automatic that they are a bodybuilder and know more than anyone else in there..

We like to call it Amatuer Hour!!

There is this one dude at my Gold's Gym who will "super set" between 8 different things at once. He does about 1/4 of the full range of motion with WAY too much weight. The best is standing arm curls with an EZ bar, he sways his whole body with it. Shit is annoying. He's about 5"8' average build. Fucking idiot.

my theory bro is the people forget that we all have something in common when we go to gyms. We are there to better our physics our mind or just push some heavy ass mother fuckn weights. Some cats like to let their ego take control of themselves. But the gym is not for that. I have a great physic and i'm verry confidant in myself. Some people thing i'm one of those guys who you're talking about. I dont look down at the small guys if i c you're struggling i'll be there to help you or give you advice. We all need help, to me i dont have to know you in the gym but to me we're good bros and i'll have your back anyday, dick heads like that bro i have no respect for em too. People might think their cool or what ever but the people who know what their doing in the gym we look down to them.

You are absolutely right!! You said it all.. Only if these douchebags read some of the shit they do maybe they would understand gym editquette..

I'm glad I have my own set up; I used to work out at a gym but if it wasn't the attitude it was waiting for someone to quit goofing around so I could use the equipment. Plus working out in my own little place{a wooden shed:evil:} I can turn up my music and do my thing. Only drawback is not having a spotter, unless my girl is around. And I still need some stuff added but I make due; better than the bs at the gym imo.

Not much but here's some pics of my little heaven...

nice little set up you got going their bro

Never had anyone try to stare me down or start anything. Why would they? I'm 5'5, fat and funny looking. Kicking my ass would be an embarassement on their part.

I don't normally make eye contact and when I do, I nod and smile. They usually do the same. I do notice a lot of the younger scrawny kids are more verbal and loud while the guys in my gym who could tear the god damn place apart are quiet and reserved.

i have guido, yelling assholes at my gym. slinky motherfuckers who need to call attention to themselves. i do my best to stay away. they embarrass themselves.

I don't 'yell', but I make some fucked up sounds when pushing my max on bench/deads etc

Hahaha - I would love to be able to see the looks on peoples faces when I'm grunting like a fuckin mad man. That and I want someone to take a photo of my face when I'm doing leg press, hahaha.

I stay focused when I am in the gym and normally dont talk to many people. I workout alone and sometimes may get a spot on my heavy bench set. I try not to be a dick, but I'm not there to socialize. I there to get it fucking done!

I dislike squat rack curlers myself, but I do find it funny sometimes. I don't think the people who curl in the squat/power racks are doing it on purpose. They may just be misinformed. A lot of them are really lifting pretty hard in there, trying their best.

Funniest thing I saw at my gym's power rack was yoga mat in it with some 35pound dumbells next to it. I think someone was doing some floor press with 35lbs on a yoga mat in the powerrack.

i curl at the squat rack. when your strong enough, you can pretty much do anything you want at your gym, imo. no one is gonna say anything to you, they may say it to their friends but not to you. i used to get pissed when people stare cuz its rude, but now, the more people staring, the harder ill push it. ever realize why you do a few more reps when the gym is packed compared to when the gym is empty. i feel good that im the center of attention, no cockiness intended. the real lifters are the one that have the people staring at them, the posers are the one staring.

I could deal with pretty much all the other stereotypical gym behavior if people would stop doing squirrels (our name for squat rack curls) and would re-rack their weights. I get so sick of people loading up 495 on the bar, doing two 1/4 squats, then just walking off. I've done straight sets of deadlifts where I nearly passed out, gotten blood shot eyes, and could barely think straight from the headache, and I still ALWAYS rack my shit.

I found this kind of funny. I was squatting 225 pounds for five sets of fives. It's not much weight, but I go to one of those fitness centers with yoga so it seems like a good amount to the people there.

This older gentleman around forty goes to the smith machine next to me and loads up the same weight and does a few 1/8 squats. I'm serious. They weren't even 1/4 squats, but 1/8 squats. He was barely moving. He took the weight off the smith rack, twitched his ass a few times then reracked. There was also grunts for each rep. He then looks at me then walks off: without reracking the weights of course. Now that I think about it, he sort of looks like Magnum PI.

you can do curls anywhere but the squat rack cuz your not lifting so much weight that you can't get it off the floor-which is the reason for the squat rack.

sorry but my gym doesnt just hae open sapce for me to bring a olympic bar and start curling, then run back an forth for plates. ill pass

I dont curl in the squat rack but I know what you mean...alot of peooplel on here talk smack about how people suck and have poor etiquitte in the gym. They never say any thing to those "squat rack curlers" in the gym, they watch and then run to their computers and bash them in these threads.

If you are there to work I dont think you would have time to notice what others are doing, Im usually sucking wind and whincing...not looking at whose curling in the squat rack. Besides...noone seems to squat anyway may as well use those racks for somethin'.

Im 6'3" and 292 and the largest in my gym...the only reason I know people watch my workouts is because the staff behind the counter tell me so...

The old dude squatting 1/8 of the way down and giving you a look as he walks away sounds like Saturday Night Live Skit..lol

I have before if the cages and racks are all full. Actually, if you read through the threads here, you'd see quite a few people have only to get in trouble themselves with the gym.

I had not noticed... if a young guy did that to me, i'd go over and ask him what i could do for him... he obviously wanted to ask me a question because he was trying to get my attention.. so here i am..

and i can't bench anywhere near 1000 lbs.. 525 was the most i got for 4 reps..but i am currently doing 315 for reps and static 405...

But, i was watching a couple guys (younger) on the squat rack and they caught me, so i had to go over so the did think i was being a "Creeper" that's the term you are looking for..

Or you could go over and let them know that you are not gay...

Alot of people think Im a gym asshole at my gym cause I squat 3 times a week, deadlift, bench with an arch and squat ATG.
