Gun Permit Approved

Rex

New member
The letter for my gun permit approval arrived at my home in PA. Thing is I won't be there until 9pm tonight after the office closes for the holiday, and leave before they open.

I asked if my old man along with my Power of Attorney could get it, but the lady had the worst speech impediment in the history of spoken language so I had no clue what the answer was. I just said I'd get it some other time.

They jack up the price? I know mine was $25 for 5 years.

It was easy as fuck when I got mine. Filled out the paperwork, Sheriff's office ran a background check, I came up clean. Less than 45 minutes and I was out of there with a photo ID.

-$29 for 5 years. Frigging inflation.
-Paper work
-ID
-They called both contacts, and my NCO down here.
-Hard as fuck to find a parking spot at the court house too.

What Unamerican state is that?

WI. We have tried to get it passed several times now, but our liberal flame-ass politicians don't think its a good idea. Assnozzles. Too many people around here driving subarus with rainbow stickers taking their dogs to dog-walking parks and complaining about tree abuse and shit like that.

Called contacts?! Damn, they didn't even go that far with mine.

It's extremely rare that I carry. Usually on long trips, and I seriously doubt (and hope) I'll ever have a "need" for my permit either.

They tried to pass that, but it didn't get anywhere. Too many PETA whores around here.

$29 bucks for 5 years HOLY SHIT!!!

Come on down to Texas $150 to get a CCL for 4 years.

No shit rob, I got to take the class for free but Im putting off going to DPS and getting the permit because its $140.

Crak, yeah they called all my contacts, and even talked to my NCO about my character. My buddy from highschool, and my best friend's dad were my character witnesses. I'm surprised they ran a background check since it was already done for enlistment, but oh well.

Gab, that sucks that your state is flaming liberals. PA is a blue state, but thank God it hasn't gotten that bad.

Jeepboi, that's frigging steep for a CWP. Guess they make sure you really want it.

All that's left is to pick it up, and choose my new piece. I think when I go into the gun store to get a feel I'll yell "Check yo'self mothafucka" with each one until it feels right. :)

I got mine real easy. I believe it was $25 for 5 years also. You can't beat having a conceiled weapons permit.
Interesting note. I was trying to cash a $5k check in NJ. The woman asked for a second form of ID... one that was a state/gov document with my signature. I whipped out the paper and said "My conceiled weapons permit should do".
I think she thought I was going to pull a gun out... LOL
I carry a .45 when the situation dictates it.
I used to bounce at some of the worst clubs in the state. The Police let me know the Latin Kings were looking to knock me off for beating the shit out of a couple of them. They actually recomended I get the permit and carry the gun to and from work.
Thankfully, I never had to use it!

You must live in/ near Madison... I grew up in Wisconsin and lived in Madison for a few years... That place is heaven for butch cut lesbians and extremist liberal activists....

They're gonna background check again though, even if it was done a few years ago when you enlisted. For all they know you could have been convicted of a courts-martial, have felony charges pending, etc.

What are you looking at gun wise? I just wanted something small, cheap, and reliable, so $175 later I had a Makarov. I'd actually like something that has a bit more accuracy at further distances, but I know I'll hit someone from 20 yards and from 15 I can put almost all 10 shots in the area the size of a head. I never handled and shot a handgun before I got mine either, never got to shoot or qual with the 9mm when I was still in.

Friend of mine was a pistol coach in Oki back in the early 90s. He had a Major's leaf for years until one of our COs saw it and said "you can't have that" and they took it from him. Pretty fucked up, but I guess there's some rule about that. He had a full bird Colonel try to give him his brass once and he turned it down because he didn't do a single thing to help the guy and he shot expert.

He HATED dealing with salty SNCOs because they never wanted to listen to him if they were shooting like shit. He said his favorite was when they kept saying that their sights were off but he'd tell them they were jerking the trigger. He'd end up shooting the next string with their 9mm and hit dead black every shot, then hand them the 9mm back and say, "you're jerking the trigger." He said they'd usually tuck tail and shut up.

Crak, I'm looking at a 9mm. Looking into the glocks. I figure if I'm in the situation where I'm going to use the thing, then the last thing I want to worry about is taking the safety off.

My brother has a glock 26. He was at a light in Southwest Philly where those window cleaner guys hang out. One tried to clean his window, but my bro pulled up to let the guy know he wasn't interested. The guy tries it again walking up the side of his car, but my bro pulled up yet again. The guy finally snaps and yells "Let me wash your fucking window" as he approaches the window. As he gets closer my bro had his gun pointed at the guy's chest[gun inside car, not visible to other cars]. The guy's face read "oh shit" and he took off.

Dude. I was under the impression that a CWP was better and better than that was a permit to carry a weapon on special primisess

I'd imagine it to be that way also.

The MP's had a "stand off" with a town police man [the cops are allowed on base, but no jurisdiction, and vice versa] because the cop walked into the base McDonald's with his weapon holstered on his hip. Pretty funny to see them arguing over it. Must've been a slow day for both departments.

You gotta be shitting me, they threw a fit over that? I'd expect the MPs and cops to get along and at least co-exist with each other.

It's a quick motion to take it off. One flick of my thumb and the safety is off. I've messed with it on the range to where I can get the safety off as I'm pulling out of the holster and getting both hands on the gun and up into position. It takes like 1/2 second to do, and I'm sure with more practice I could get it off faster.

I don't trust the safety anyway, but I've tested them on all 3 shootable guns that I have and they all work. Of course, the biggest safety is your trigger finger, but I don't think I could buy a gun that didn't have one.

I need to notch out the safety on the AK-47 still so it holds the bolt to the rear. Even with the safety on, if you smack the rifle hard enough the bolt will go home. Can't pull the trigger with the safety on, but I'd like to be able to lock the bolt back, especially if I were to ever get a jam and needed to reach into the chamber. The only way the safety works on my Makarov is if the slide is forward, it won't go on with the slide to the rear. I'd prefer if I could put the safety on with the slide to the rear, that way when I put a mag in and send the slide forward, the safety would be on right away if I wanted it on.

Rex,

Glock makes some of the finest handguns on the planet. Here are some of the advantages.

1. Reliability. I once took my Glock 21, and fired 5000 rounds through it over the course of 5 weeks, without cleaning it. Not a single malfunction. Just for shits and giggles, I threw a handful of sand down the slide of my Glock 19, and proceeded to empty 3 full hi-cap mags at a paper target. No malfunctions.

2. Simplicity. A Glock breaks down into only 33 parts. Easy to clean, and easy to use.

3. Low felt recoil. Since a Glock sits low in the hand, about like a Colt 1911A, the amount of torque experienced by the wrist remains lower. This causes less muzzle rise, and allows for rapid front sight re-acquisition for follow up shots.

4. Safety. The 3 internal safety system in a Glock ensures that there will be no discharge unless the trigger is pressed. I have seen a test where a loaded Glock was dropped off the top of a 150 foot tower. No discharge on impact.

The only downsides I have experienced with them are the following.

1. Glocks tend to be wide handguns, so carrying concealed is a bit more problematic at times. These problems can easily be overcome with proper holster selection though.

2. Cost. Glocks tend to ride the high price end of semi-autos.

Go with a Glock. You'll be happy.

God Bless America...CCW.

We are fighting an uphill battle here in Illinois...i see the light though..Mayor Daleys hold is slipping..and i have a feeling this Gun Ban Tyranical Zealot who is against freedom and the constitution and for bribes kickbacks and mafia will be cast out and replaced with someone who ist a staunch enemy of the 2nd ammendment. The Governors race is soon too. They must both GO!

We are introducing some bills here thru time we will turn this state forward.....get rid of the tyrants like Daley and Blogojevich.

May God Continue to bless America!

The NRA is fighting the battle as we speak to intorduce CCW here. We have passed firearm protection law ( which protects you from being charged with a crime for using your weapon to defend yourself in your home even if your local ordinance prohibits handguns there etc.)

If your not an NRA member join up.
We are fighting now to pass a bill to protect the Gun industry from frivoulous lawsuits etc. It was up for passing but we kicked it out because of poison pill amendments that would of made it illegal to buy deer hunting amunition etc. They(liberals and anti-constitutionist socialists) are always finding a way. We must be ever vigilant. We are wining the battle and gaining amazing ground. However now they see they can not win this way they are going under the clause of "safety" and "sniper weapons" and trying to raise prices on ammunition etc...and file frivolous lawsuits which keep geting rejected by the courts for use of firearms by criminals to commit crimes. Whats next...if i have an accident with my SUV....can i sue the manufacturer...hey he produced the car...that is what we are fighting. They are trying to bankrupt the firearm industry. We must pass the bill this year.

God Bless the US.

The land of the free and the home of the brave!

May this land be free from opression , injsutice, and most importantly liberals....and remain Under GOD indivisible with liberty and justice for all ( except liberals :) )

Glock is a great idea....carry mine all the time, never leave home with out my glock. But, you should consider going with the 40SW...better stopping power..you cant go wrong with a glock 23...

How are you guys on calls...?
I dont trust 9mm..even if i can get 20+ rounds
Id rather go with 14 or so of .45 acp

9mm would not be my first choice but it's still a great round assuming you have the right ammo. The only reason why I keep a 9mm in my arsenal is because that's the caliber of the H&K P7 which is IMHO the greatest handgun available. I already said that before but once again I feel the need to repeat myself: the best caliber around is 10mm. Big, fast and punishing (for your opponent).
