So hubby and I have been thinking about getting a fire arm for home protection.

I'm prob gonna take a gun course at the local range in order to learn basics such as holding it, firing it, technique, etc.

Hubby wants a hand gun but I'm thinking shot gun, saw a simple maverick Mossberg 8 round 12 gauge I liked, barrel can be unscrewed and removed for security, holds enough ammo, easy to load.

I like that the loading noise alone is enough to alert intruders you are armed and not fucking around, also if it were to lock up or run out of ammo I can even use the damn thing like a weapon/bat, my concern though is the recoil, specially in a 12 gauge, also mobility, you cant really sneak around with a shotgun lol and you need room around, my halls are pretty tight at home.

Thoughts?

Mossberg 500 or remington 870

You don't need a pistol from home defense (especially when you two don't know how to properly use it)

Shotgun is your best bet....point and shoot.

Why buy something with a removable barrel? You gonna tell the intruder to hold on while you assemble your gun?

Glock 9mm or .40 or .45 is great for home defense if you also want a piece you can CCW with also

otherwise get a decent pump 12ga shotgun from Academy or something between $200-$300

A 9mm Glock is my second choice actually

I wanted to buy that Mossberg maverick 12ga 8 at the gun show but didn't.... where would you guys recommend I buy a simple shotgun, some people told me sporting good stores such as Dick's but I'm open to suggestions.

wherever it's cheapest...doesn't matter where you buy it.

Like i said, mossberg 500 is perfect for what you want and you can pick one up for a couple hunskie

I found different Mossberg 500, slug gun, deer combo, super bantam

Is the one you mean like this?
Mossberg 500 All-Purpose 20ga Shotgun: Shooting : Walmart.com

I should have taken the damn model of the one I held at the gun show, I know it was a Mossberg maverick 12 gauge(dude said recoil wasn't bad on that model, feels like a 20 ga), holds 8 shots, all black, riveted rubber bottom, barrel unscrews, weight felt exactly right, damn it

just go to the closest sporting goods store and get a Mossberg pump with the 20" barrel and a stock. if they don't have it in stock, they can get it. should be in the $350 range. don't get talked into getting one with a pistol grip

12 or 20 gauge and load it with buckshot. and then go put some rounds through it

Fuck no, I don't like the pistol grip ones.
The one at the gun show was $249, damn it I knew I should have gotten it.

Just load an mp3 player with a shot gun sound and go back to sleep.

Saiga 12ga with a 30rd drum or an aa12 that comes with a 20rd drum and has virtually no recoil. I'm still debating between the two. As for now I have a sarlimaz k2 .45 that I got at a local show by my house. Holds 14rds +1.
