Gun Aficionados, I Need Suggestions

TrueLiberal

New member
I'm interested in purchasing two guns for home defense. I've never owned a gun before. I'm thinking that a shotgun and a high caliber pistol are ideal. I'm willing to spend up to $1000 on each.

Also what modifications are useful? I've seen sights that look like laser pointers and wonder if those are helpful. I live in Massachusetts. I'm not familiar with the laws here, but I'm sure there is some limitation on the amount of rounds that can be held in the clip.

I'm very smart in this area. I was a close quarter combat instructor in the Marine corps. Shot gun is a great choice. You will want a short one so its tactical. Your best mods for that will be a flash light and laser. Most people that are not well trained don't think about putting a laser on a shot gun. But the fact is, being in a gun fight in side a builder is very scary your first couple times. The laser will let you just aim your shot gun in the right direction very fast. It's a shot gun, so you don't need to be dead on.

I was born in MA, so I know there laws. Live in ME now.

I'm sure the AK-47 is illegal to own in Massachusetts. I wouldn't be surprised if it is illegal for me to own a sharp stick in this state.

Car-15

You can get both for a grand.

Remington 870 12 gauge - $400 give or take a few bucks. Spend the rest on tricking it out if you like.

Lots of options on the pistol. If you want something pretty to look at go with a kimber or Springfield 1911. If you just want a basic home defense pistol, I like the Springfield XD or Glock. The XD or Glock would be simpler to use.

Fuck that get an Israli weapon!

HK-91

XD and Glock are great guns. I actually picked up a SIG last week and I love the grip on it.

A 12ga. Shotgun ( rem 870, win 1300 defender) and a .45 cal . Auto 1911, if you're familiar with sa auto version, revolver if your not, ammo designed for self protection, low pent. heavy thump, at close range you don't want to follow thru and hit innocent. Lots if classes on home defense and know your state laws,

Where do I go to learn how to effectively defend myself in the home with a gun?

Go to the ghetto and start yelling "Die niggers"
Fastest self defense class to date.

Since when does a true liberal feel the need to defend his home and property?

You're confusing me with a false liberal. Think liberty. Most of the Founding Fathers were liberals. Protection of property is a cornerstone of true liberal ideology. Self defense is most important since your body is your most valuable property. Home defense is important because that property shelters your body from external threats like nature and government and criminal intrusion.

I'm not reading that.

So you wanna buy an AK or not?

Dont live in the ghetto and you wont have to worry

Tell that to billionaire, Ernest Rady, of La Jolla, CA, who suffered a home invasion/robbery back in 2007.

New details emerge in Rady break-in | The San Diego Union-Tribune

"During the attack in February, [Ernest] Rady was not only stung with a Taser but also cut; the weapon was not specified."

"He [the assailant] stunned Evelyn Rady and a housekeeper with a Taser and bound them with duct tape."

You're crazy. Protection of property is a "cornerstone liberal idealology" ?

Your house isnt going to protect you from government intrusions. You're delusional.

Dont buy a gun. You're not mentally qualified.. End of story

Ok. Also dont be a billionaire

I can find stories of just millionaires if you'd like?

If you're not a millionaire or better, you probably don't own a home in La Jolla.

I didn't say that having a house automatically protects you from government intrusions like some form of magic without fail. I said it shelters you from external threats like nature and government and criminal. If a roof leaks or a skunk sneaks into your home are you going to claim a house doesn't shelter you from nature? Do you sleep outside? Would you feel more protected if you did? Why so much vitriol?

A true liberal would force all homeowners to liquidate their property for "the common good"
With all the poverty in america all those homeowners simply dont need those homes.

whatever you buy just take it the range and often. 12 gauge's are not something you fire off for the first time when someone is trying to break into your home. Buy what you can comfortably fire. Go to the range and shoot multiple pistols. If you buy something because someone else like it you're not going to shoot it well in a real situation.

go small caliber for sure..in case you miss now you have a big hole in your wall to fix

If you have a family actually the bigger calibers are better cause they do put a big hole in whatever they hit but after that they're done. THe smaller calibers tend to travel through walls better. That's why imo shotguns are the ideal home defense weapon. A sawed off .16 is the perfect hallway duster for women.

Pistol and Shotgun. Get tactical ones. A flashlight is a great option...allows you to see well and blinds them(LED). 12gauge and something like a high capacity 40cal. Smith, Ruger, and Springfeild are great for handguns. For shotguns Mossberg and remington for a decent price or go Benelli or Saiga for a bit more. The Saigas are pretty tight. Or you can do like i did and put the 40 in the truck and shotgun in the closet and buy a smith and wesson governor for the dresser drawer. A revolver that shoots 410 defense rounds.

1911 is my favorite .45 cal of course you want a nice meaty bullet to get the job done load it up with some hollow points and your ready for even the biggest most jacked intruder to come in your house get the ones with the rail under the barrel and you can mount a flashlight or laser as for the rifle I use an ar-15 tacked out but it's a little over kill Mossburg and Benelli and Remington are your best choices with a buck shot 00 or a home defense round so you don't have as much colateral damage

It's great to do that. Can be tricky because unless its a tactical shotgun, it won't have a rail system. But you can order barrel mounts for it as well.

Here's what I did to mine. I put a front pistol grip on it that has a flash light and laser built in. Has a pressure plate for each one, so just press don't with a finger to turn them on. Great mod for a tactical weapon.

Yes, technically I have. But in the military I generally used a PEQ-2, its a laser sight that can only be seen if your weariness night vision. BUT that's not realistic for home use.

Why were you using a peq-2? I used a peq-15, I joined in 07. AK are legal to own even if they are full auto as long as you have a tax stamp and a class III license for each one. A good tac shotgun would be a rem870, bernelli 12, even a mossburg 500 with a collapsable stock. For pistol you just can't beat the 1911 from rock island or colt if you have the money. As for AR-15 all mine are Rock river arms A3 and A4. Hell if you have the money a Rock river PDS carbine would be good for home defense and having fun.

X2 on a rem 870..12ga and a 1911 .100years can be wrong. For the $ Rock Island 1911 run great. I just picked up an STI 2011... $$$$ but dam I wanted one!

Been collecting for years as well as multiple deployments as a US Army Ranger. Currently working as a consultant for Department Of Defense. My suggestion is some sort of revolver preferably 357 either Taurus or Ruger with a 6 in barrel. You want a revolver bc you will forget to swap mags every month or so with a semi auto. 357 bc you can use 38 special as well as 357. Secondly a shotgun is a great choice. Mossburgh 500 or Remington 870. What gauge is up to you, what ever is comfortable for you to shoot. I would also suggest either getting rid of the buttstock completely or shortening it. Most times people have to defend themselves it happens very very quickly so you don't want a long gun it's to slow to bring up. As far as shells..... I would suggest double ought buck and slugs. Only bc they will stop anything in their path but not over penetrate or blow through walls and kill one of your neighbors. I DO NOT suggest something like an AR 15 or AK 47 for the over penetration reason. Those bullets travel at over 3000 feet per second and you have to plan on missing. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I hope you never have to use it but it's better to be safe than sorry. Make sure to keep the proper safety measures are in place when owning guns. Good luck

Plan on missing, really?

I forgot Marines don't miss. They hit everything they shoot at... Head shots only, if they have 30 rds they get 30 head shots at 400 meters. Gimme a break. I guess it just goes back to the acronym for Marine.... Muscles are required "intelligence" not expected

Yes we do, I'm glad we agree on something. I know it must be hard to understand being Army that us Marines shoot open sites to the 500. If I'm shooting at someone I'm gonna make damn sure I hit him. I never "plan" to miss. But then again it's like you said it goes back to the acronym Aren't Ready For Marines Yet.

Haha that's funny but I love all our armed forces and am damn proud of them and thankyou to anyone on here who has served or is serving your the real heroes

Used it in 2002-2004 deployments. Last deployment was way back then.

All the branches of the military do there job. There all completely different also. Do Marines miss some time? Yes of course, no one is perfect. But can I hit a Target at 500+ yards? Fuck yea I can! :-)

Nope, never even seen one in person. When it comes to zombie infections lol I'm not going anywhere withouth my rem700 or M38 mosin nagant. Most people don't like bolt actions but for me it's a necessity.

you live in Mass, the police will take care of you.. no worries, just put a sign in your front yard opposing gun ownership..

after all if you have enough to steal, you should be sharing it anyway..

cool story rob, you should bring it up for a 4th time even though nobody seems to care. Don't be a quitter, let's hear some more about your fleshlight theory.

I don't know about you guys but I hear that fleshlights work better on your dicks. Lol

The least likely to be a legal problem would be a rifle or shotgun. And with a shotgun, you will be able to stop an intruder/attacker whether or not you're in good practice. And for under $500, you can get the best. I'd go to pawn shops or gun dealers who sell vintage firearms, as there are many shotguns (Winchester 1897, for instance), which are outstanding quality and if kept in good shape, will only go up in value later.

Good luck finding a trench gun that's in good enough shape for home defense at a pawn shop. 1897's are not that common in pawn shops and deff not for cheap.
