Ground Turkey MEAT

Debu

New member
My BF bought the wrong turkey meat. It says LEAN but just by looking at it I know it is not. I think the label says 7g of fat/serving.

Now if I boil this or stir fry it and wash it with water do you all think I can remove most of the fat? Or is the fat more internal?

Geez, girl, I wish I knew for ya!! I hope you two aren't having a domestic over it? I'm kidding!! I went off the handle once about the same thing. Never knew the answer. I patted it into a burger and threw it on the george foreman. So, in return, I skipped the cottage cheese. It's probably why I'm "big."

LOL Torchy! I know what you mean, we did have a "domestic distubance issue" lol, because I REMINDED him to make sure it is the BREAST not the fattening stuff and he comes home with about 6 packages of the WRONG stuff! I don't need all that extra saturated fat!

After you cook it, put it in a strainer/collander and rinse it with hot water. (Don't do it if you are one of those people that believe that hot water out the faucet has lead and "bad stuff" in it.) This is suppose to cut the fat by more than half. (Will also take a lot of the flavor away :( ) Hope this helps

:argue: :bigkiss: :horny:

But making up is great! Question, how does it end up being our fault that they bought the wrong shit? Answer, we didn't write it down!!:)

funny you should say this about the meat. my husband is always on my ass about my diet and i asked him to get some ground meat the other day and he came back with the 7% stuff and i never buy that. we had an altercation in the store over this!!!!

I buy the turkey breast without skin and grind it in my food processor then I add pepper, garlic, chipotle chili powder, cilantro, a little crushed fat free saltines and egg whites.
wip it a little more, make patties, lety them sit over night so the flavors melt in
Makes a great burger

Ground Turkey meat.....hmmmm. It is a wonder to me how the FDA allows this on the shelf......I guess the same is true for the hot dog and bologna. Ground turkey is pretty much the by product of the what is left of the turkey when the breast is done away with. You get the skin, feet, and what ever else you can imagine is left over. I would just as well say, "No thank you" and go back to the store. Why do you think it comes in a roll and sells for such a good price. You get what you pay for.

Promet1...great recipe!! I will have to give that a try!

The butcher at costco told me almost the same thing about ground turkey. Also he said they don't carry it anymore (at least here in montreal) because it spoils so quickly for some reason. *shrug*

Those of us here in good ol' upstate NY have a turkey farm. The ground turkey is actually not any funky bi-products. See, they have that, too. But, they also ground white meat only. It's not bad. It's pretty damn dry, but add some cayenne, GARLIC, and onion- you're good to go.

Stop the violence, LOL! We, as woman, need to stand up and just shop! Or, again, write a detailed list. Just kidding, gents:)

we'll use ground turkey breast along with a little bit of very lean beef to make burgers on the grill. the beef makes it hold its shape a little better. looks spotted.

ahhhhhhhh.... so glad to hear it's not just me who deals with this strange behavior... yet another reason why i have to come visit the boards every day :D
