GrizzlyMan..........

Has anyone heard this tragedy? Timothy Treadwell, believe his intentions were pure, but lacked any real education about the behavior and dangers of Kodiac Grizzly bears. He learned by going into the wild for 13 years, yes, but I believe he had trouble separating his emotion from the situation. It appeared that he expected the bears to act like humans and to have a human-type of reasoning ability. He also appeared a little mentally unstable in the way he ranted and raved on and on. I used to work with people with mental problems who unknowingly endangered themselves all the time, and would go off on tangents of yelling and the like - he was acting just like that.

I beleive his and his girlfriend's death was tragic, but he got too close to the bears. He stayed too long that last year and all the bears that new him went into hibernation. The larger, hungrier bears just saw food. They didn't know him, he was usually gone before they came down into the area. I don't know, it just seems so tragic..................

He was a goofy but fascinating man. I've seen several interviews with him prior to his death. Whereas I am glad he helped to heighten public awareness of the bears habits and problems, I don't mourn his death. If you are going to interact that closely with extremely unpredictable and potentially dangerous animals then bad things can happen. I think he wouldn't want anyone to feel bad for him he went doing the one thing he loved. As for his GF if she wasn't properly warned about the dangers then it is tragic, if she understood the risks then again she accepted this fate prior to its occurrence.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I was amazed at this film. I also agree with Scotsman; Amie was 37 years old, I don't think she would be brainwashed by Tim to see bears up close and personal without fully realizing she could be killed. I think the biggest tragedy was having the bear who killed Tim and Amie shot since that was the last thing Tim wanted. Mentally retarded? No way. He was a bright man whose found peace with nature.

dude you can only play with fire for so long before you get burnt

i mean look at siegfried and roy attack

If you all saw it on the Discovery Channel, then you didn't see the best parts. He's actually pretty funny. He gets angry towards the end and uses the word fuck about 200 times. When the fox steals his hat he starts saying "You mother fucker". It's funny yet sad.

The guy obviously knew something about what he was doing because he was out there for 13 years. Plus the bear that killed him was hungry and old.

Rent it on DVD, it's much better.

I thought it was funny as shit, as funny as when a tree hugger gets killed by a fallen tree. Justice is served, I mean come on loser get a job!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. This guy 'sean scott' reminds me of the pilot in the movie who said the bears thought Treadwell was retarded.

holy crap i agree with you
I saw the part where he was ranting and saying FU and i won and stuff
Did you see the last footage he had? It said "hours before his death"
and they said when the bear was attacking him he was telling the woman to run
but she was knocking the bear upside the head with a frying pan

Bears are smart creatures, they have been known to play dead.Years ago, my grandfather made honey in bee hives, and this bear came around and was eating the honey out of the hives, and my dad shot it(it was night time) and my dad climbed a tree till daylight to make sure the bear was dead. Never trust a bear

wouldnt be much of a conversation thread without counter points but ok if thats the way it is thats the way it is.

There's a different between counter points and ignorance.

No no, the pilot said "It's almost like the bears thought he was retarded or something." He wasn't at all. He was just passionate and willing to die for what he thought was the right thing to do.

Yeah, I think the reason they included that completely random tid bit is because he said he had the biggest adrenaline rush ever when he saw the bear that killed Timothy. If he rode a bull and said that, it means something.

ok, so the bears thought he was retarded or not

Yeah, I dunno. The guy who said that was so conservative he made Bush look liberal.

I have seen this guy on the discovery channel before I think years ago and he was talking about going out there with them and how he learned to live with them. Had names and such and created a whole personality as if the bears were human.
It was hard not to think that he was out there when the bears were just able to have a more preferred food source than him and thats why he wasnt eaten. But it was painfully obvious and easy to predict then that he would be killed and eaten by a bear. I grew up in an area with bears and know they will kill people.

He seemed delusional about the nature of a carnivore at the top of the food chain. Going in with ideal conditions then starting to delude himself about the dangers, in the end he was killed and eaten just like bears do in nature.

Same I bought it too. I'm assuming most people here have watched it on the Discovery Channel which is toned down and less emotional.

the guy had serious mental issues though guys, if he was so smart he would realize that what he was doing was HARMING the bears. Making bears comfortable about people only makes it MORE likely that hunters kill them.

And if he was so smart he would have realized that yeah, those bear may have tolerated him, but if they got hungry enough, they wouldn't see him as anything more then just lunch.

i don't get how you people can call this dude smart...passionate for sure, but a narrow-minded psycho...he thought he owned the forest and all the animals. imagine what he would have done if he saw peeps hunting bears. i think he was capable of murder. i feel more sympathy for the bear...i don't get that, why shoot him? wtf did he do? a bear's got to eat, and if some bumbling fuck is gonna offer himself then fair game

I agree. I think he should have taken the time to educate himself more, and not thought that the bears had human reasoning ability. I think the bear that killed him WAS hungry and desperate, BUT it had a taste for human blood which makes it extremely more dangerous to tourists and hikers in the area. Unfortunately, it had to be killed. It probably would have started to hunt humans as a primary food.

i know it doesn't work like that, but so what if it has a taste for humans? it's in it's own territory, low population...it should be able to have whatever taste it wants...the humans entering his territory should respect and fear them...as well, they should be properly armed.
