Grimmer And I Shirted Up Tonight!

Well why warming up i felt ok. BUt with all my shirts each one has something special that has to be done before they work for me, they way i want. Tonight was aflop! For me anyway. I warmed up like this

135x20
225x10
315x10
405x8
500x2

Shirted up and went 545x1 no touch (of course)
600x1 no touch , good lockout. shirt not
pulled down.
620x1 no touch (closer) good lockout
635x1 no touch Even closer) Good lockout.
650x1 should have pulled my shirt down
but didnt. Would have touched.
no lockout. Best lockout in this shirt
ever is 635

Put tight ass shirt on! 675x1 forgot to pull my shirt down. No touch but little rebound. No go! If i pull the shirt down 675 will fly up! But not form the bottom. If i touch it, i wont get it. I am just not there yet. I am not ready for this shirt. Not only that i was getting really tired at this point too.

So as you see i did too much. Next week i will use a looser shirt , drop the tightest one and go no more then 635. First week in shirt usually sucks anyway. My shirts are fuckin tight! I weighed 235 last time i (barely) got anything down with the medium shirt. Now at 250plus it is just too tight for 600lbs. If i can pop 575 or so in the loose shirt i migh tjust open in it. If i had to guess right now for the meet i would say 585 620 635 660 with tight shirt on 4th! Of course this could change next week. I need to try the loose shirt first.

I will let grimmer explain how his went. He is gonna do great in St Pete!
 
My numbers are no where near Pljays but i did about as good as i expected. This being only the second time having a shirt on i'm still getting used to the groove of it and all that comes along with it. I raw bench 300 and this is what i did.

put shirt on for 315 no touch locked out easy
345 no touch locked out easy
365 about 3 inches from touch and got way out of groove on lockout and missed. The shirt wants to put the weight closer to my head and i want to push it closer to my upper abs and we just didn't get along today.
I finally put 335 on and touched it low on my chest/high on abs and the shirt threw it over my face again. I know i can lock 335 out i just need to get used to a double denim , its groove, and evrything else that comes with the teritory.
i've never taken 345 or 365 out of the rack before so it went about as expected. Hopefully by st. pete i'll have it dialed in and will get 365 to touch and lock.

Think just training with someone who is as focussed and driven as any powerlifter/trainer forces us to push that bit harder.

A couple of sets it was phsically impossible. Others like the 650 with my medium shirt. It would have touched but i wouldnt have pushed back up. It was set for 635. The 675 would have touched maybe, and that was only cause i forgot to pull the shirt down, on the tightest shirt, I also had that shirt set for 635lbs. 635 in the medium shirt is hard but 635 in the tight one feels like 500lbs. Yes my shirts are that technical.

On a side not i had a sore throat when i woke up Monday morning, no big deal, but after shirting up i now have flu like symtems as of about midnight last night. There is no gym for me tonight. I need sleep! I feel like shit. My throat is almost completely shut.
 
Its a hell of a lot of inspiration when a weak bencher like myself goes in and trains with not just one but two guys that were putting up 500 and 600 lb benches.

Some day , some day , i will be at that level. With a little luck and a lot of hard ass work.
 
i wanna train with you guys! i can put up 190 w/ out a shirt... lol.. i'd just be making a fool of myself. the weights most of you put up are ridiculous
but seriously, if you wanna train just PM me..lol
 
HEY yea I'd love to train with you guys too but I think Jay on your first warm up is where I'll max out and be done :D . But it's all good. man how am I gonna do in my shirt then I've never worn one????!!!!!

even if i had 5 double denim bench shirts on, 675lbs would come crashing down on my chest... for you it didnt even touch that time
 
Guys everybody starts somewhere. My first bench meet i benched low 400lbs that was Nov 1999.

I actually got a new double denim on a fri and did 2 sets to feel it, and PR'd the next day at the meet. Off course i hav eused denim before but when i go tighter its all new again.


If you can use it for ST PETE great, if not next time. Or hell go raw!

Anytime any of ya'll want to come train in the "Golds house of pain" your more then welcome. Dont worry about what I lift. You just come train and you might learn something new. Or different.
 
When are you gonna be in St PETE i'ma show up there thur night or fri morning and weigh in fri morning and I'm staying there until sunday. My parents want to explore and after weigh ins I already told them I'm hitting every ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET. And that's exactly what I'm going to be doing. Right now i'm trying to gain weight and i just stay the same weight but I'm eating soooo much more my intake is 300g/carbs/day 150g/protein/day and about 70g/fat/day. And I just eat whatever. I love it it's like my body was meant to be for eating or somethin I dunno. But I can't wait to get this shirt and try it on. I still need to know how to train in it before my meet in march. Damn only 18 days away. My last training day will be tuesday and I'll rest til Saturday does that sound good.
 
Dude , if you calculate that out your only eating about 2500 cal/day 2430 to be exact. thats Nothing. I eat that before noon. Don't count calories just eat until you are full , sit there for 10 minutes, and eat another 10 bites of whatever you are eating and do it again the next time you eat. Between meals every hour or so eat Protien bar , or peanut butter crackers or a bag of chips or what ever you can get your hands on and then tell me you can't gain weight. Don't eat when you are hungry , eat before you get hungry.

Hell only 18 days. I'm gonna go eat some more dinner.

Another question to you big benchers. When you are training raw, do you touch the chest? I remember Jay saying he's done a few reps with like 500, and higher reps with well over 400. Are these to the chest? Just curious, thanks.
 
bench shirt book or video

Thats a lot of good info about bench shirts Jay. I think someone should write a book about bench shirts, including which ones to get, putting on, all the intricate and technical aspects. Seriously. Either a book or a video. I havent seen anything about it yet, has anyone seen anything about it? There must be thousands of people with bench shirts who would want to read it. I know that I would.
 
Bill Crawfird and sebastian Burns put out a video on bench shirts. I believe Bill was one of the first ones to wear a complete open back bench shirt. Bill has teh shirt down to a complete science.

When i bench in training the weight does touch my chest. No pause just quick touch n go.

This flu is kicking my ass, havent been out of bed since mOnday night. It was like the quickest i have ever been hit. Today i aint moving, and hopefully i will feel better.

I am having nightmares (for real) about these freakin bench shirts. What freakin good are they for me if i cant get nothing down. Think about this? i did my first meet in an open back denim last AUg. couldnt touch 1 and 2nd attempts got 3rd and 4th. weighed 235. Then at bench bash weighed 220 but lifted again around 235 or so. fucked up first attempt, (landed towrds my face), then got 2nd (opener again) and i believe i got 600 down. Jan 20th no touch no touch bomb. In my last 3 meets i have done a total of 10 attmeps and and got 3 lift with the shirt.

You must stay in the groove. BUt my tris can comfortably lift btween 600 and 625. But i odnt have a shirt for a 600 bench. In my meduim i may get between 625 and 635 but not fo ran opener. Anyting less then 600 i got a loose shirt before but its big, i get nothing out of it, i would be lucky to get 575 in it. So yes i may say i am a master of denim , i am going through a little rough spot. Dont worry i will iron it out. Bt i mean what a pain in the ass. This meet i will open light. My motto is go big or dont go. I dont wanna go lift an opener and miss the rest i assume bomb if its alight opener. But my wife thinks i am wasting time. She want me to win. Or dont go. So i didicate my opener to her!
 
I am having a similar problem but on a smaller scale. My shirt that Karin fixed up for me will not let anything less than about 460 to 470 touch. And thus far 475 is the most I have done in any shirt in the gym. I know if the wind is right and the powerlifting gods are with me that I can lock out 500 provided I get moving at a good pace off the chest, but I have a very narrow margin for error now, that I did not used to have.

I had intended to open on March 16th with 450 then 475, then shoot for 500 on the theory that I would open where I absolutely knew I could get it, a second attempt where I was over 90 percent sure, and a third attempt that was a 50/50 shot. But that theory is currently being revised.

I still havent really found my opener. Hopefully tonight, cause I aint putting that shirt on again after tonight till the 16th.

I hope to someday be posting on here about how pitiful it is not to be able to touch my chest with 600 plus. And I can guarantee you guys that if that ever does become a problem, you are going to hear about it.

Hope you get to feeling better real soon Jay, Grimmer congrats, and I am sure it will all come together in St. Pete. Think about the Okies when you guys are in St. Pete.

Quite simply you need to eat more, especially protein. You are not getting enough protein to maintain the muscle mass you should have.

Eat many cow, grow strong like bull.
 
Hey guys here's the thing i'm trying so hard to eat alot and I can't gain weight i'ma try a weight gainer or something I weighed 177 today so that's some improvement. I'll worry about the weight gainer after ST PETE since i'm lifting 181 in there.
 
PLJay are you going to do a full meet or just bench, also grimmer and brianminchner what do yall weigh and total
 
I weigh about 225 right now. I have not entered any full meets, so I can't give you an official total, but with double layer equipment if all went right, I could post a 600 squat, 500 bench, and a 450 deadlift, or a bit more, so like a 1550 total. Which is not very good, and which is why I have stayed away from full meets. I will be getting a reverse hyper in a couple of months, and I may enter a full meet this fall if the hyper helps the squat and deadlift like I hope, but all the meets around here are single ply only for full meets, and they are tested.

BTW, I took up powerlifting in July 2001. So I have been at it for 8 months now. I am hoping in a couple of years to have a decent total. But pretty pitiful right now.

My total is pretty weak right now as well. Mainly because my bench sucks. I weigh 220 right now and have never done a full meet either but have done a bench and squat meet and am doing a bench dead in march. I'm hopong to bench 340 or 350 in march deadlift 500 -525 and i can probably squat around the same. So hypothetically a total of 1350 -1400. If this next year goes well, i plan on deadlifting close to 600 in December sqauting 600 and benching close to 400 ( ya right) totaling over 1500 hopefully. Those are my goals for 2002.

4 months ago my best were 300 bench(raw) 475 dead(raw) and 450 squat ( belt and wraps no suit) 1225.
 
sub Q i will three lift in June. Until then its bench only. All till then will be at 242lbs. I am currently at 250lbs. My total is up in the air. I can squat 800 (i would say more it was freakin light) , bench over 600 (were exactly i dont know). Deadlift who knows, it btween 565 and 600. And that is all i know. I am genoures with the squat and bench, i can do more then that just really dont know how much more. I stopped my squats there cause my suit was feelling dangerously tight. Grovve problems. But its in the shop and if it goes like i think i will do more soon. And i open with 600 on the bench but am having major shirt trounle as we speak. Are you doing the senior nationals?
 
I won the nasa nats in 97 and have been out of it since then. I got laid off about 8 weeks ago and started training again seriously and will be doing the apf meet in vegas and hopefully qualify for the wpo. I sqatted 620 last night benched 415 last week with a double poly and deadlifted 585 raw. I am hopeing with a double denim shirt and a marathon dead suit I can total around 1700 to 1750 in april oh yea I weigh 188 right now and will lift at 181

Hell ya those are some good numbers bro! Glad to have you aboard. Hows that marathon deadlift suit. How much do you get out of it? I pull , well when i pull i use a champion suit. Thinking of just using briefs and singlet.

YOu will notice a big differnce btewen your poly and a 2x denim. Go ahead and order your denim today. if your gonna do APF, and WPO you will need it.
