Actually, things were not so great between these two. I met them through mutual friends and their behaviour towards one another was downright bizarre and cruel. My friends said after my exposure to them that it was all common place and an everyday thing.

The story with them is not so much different than you find any other showbiz couple.
Siegfried (Si' as most people call him) is actually a very loving and caring partner. Roy is just an asshole.
Most people are not aware these two do not even live together. Roy had Si banished from his home years ago. Had his things packed up and left curbside. Si bought another home and allows Roy in and to spend the night occassionally, but Roy has never had Si inside his home at all. Si has never been further than the driveway. The room at the casino that was redesigned and reworked for "them" to live in, Si is not allowed to set foot inside there either. After Roy was attacked and allowed to come home from ICU, he stayed at Si's house until he recovered enough (with help from a nursemaid) to get around and do things on his own. He then went back to his house and still has not allowed Si inside.
When I first met them Roy tried his best to pick me up and get me to go home with him. There wasn't a chance in hell I was going to nail a freeze dried queen like that. So he drifted off to another guy and then another. You could see that it really bothered Si a LOT to see this so flagarantly flaunted in his face (Roys' behaviour). So he responds in the same manner that anyone else would do. with belittling insults, a (fake) I don't care attitude, and an attempt to One-Up Roy by hooking up with better looking people that Roy does. With Si it is all a emotional self defense (denial) mode that is part of a typical power struggle with people in problematic relationships. With Roy, it is his true selfish behaviour.
My friend told me that the guys Si takes home (to get back at Roy) is not sexual at all. They just talk and whatever. roy likes to get fucked. that's all he is in it for.
When Roy gets drunk he gets very abusive. making an ass out of himself. Sort of like the E. Taylor R. Burton public fights.
If these two were not so much invested in one another and co-dependent on each other for their success, they would have broken up long ago.

60 years???? God - that's amazing. I've never had kids because until I find someone that might actually be a keeper like that it's not worth it. I mean being a single parent must be tough but being a guy I'd probably not get custody and only get to see my kids on the weekends. I've seen guys in that situation - very sad - kids can be insensitive and talk about how great their new stepfather is. A guy at work was telling me about this - thought he was going to cry - not pretty.
Nobody wants to go the distance these days. I'd say the greatest love of all time is probably not even someone famous. A couple that spent their entire lives doing what it takes to make a family servive and always put each other first.

Regarding old people being married for 60 years as being the greatest love.
Generally the reason is because they could not pull anybody after the first 5 years of marriage because they first, had no game to begin with, which is why they got married, wow, I got me some pussy, this will not happen again, lets get married. Or they have f'd up religious beliefs that say they CANNOT get a divorce, its a "sin", etc......or they are too dull and boring and live a boring, sedate life, and are too bored to look around.
They like "settling down"
I do not see this as particularly good or them as "role models" to emmulate as individuals. I doubt I would want to be that man.
