Great new lat exercise

Lumberg

I was doing back on Sunday in a new gym. I had been doing pull ups and seated row machine for lats but my new gym didn't have the machine so I improvised a sort of upright row exercise.

I took the adjustable incline bench that gyms always have by the DBS and set it to the second-lowest it could be and still be an incline (I'd say just under 45 degrees). I then layed face down on it and sort of rowed 35# DBs. It was hard but it felt productive.

Today my lats are sore in a way they have never been sore before. I get the impression that this exercise targets the lats in way very similar to bent over rows (which I have never done) or T-bar rows. The advantage of course is that each side is exercised individually.

I'm really happy because my lats have always been one of my weakest muscles (form wise, not strength-wise). I am going to incorporate this exercise into my routine permanently.

And for those of you wondering why I didn't just do bent -over rows with the end of the BB in the corner, this gym is way too small and there is only one BB for the entire place, and it is on the bench. Plus they don't have the right kind of attachment.

dude, youve never done bent over rows? i suggest you start them. my lats hurt every time i do them. grab a dumbell next time and feel the pump dude.

I have done DB bent over rows.

What I meant was I have hever done the kind with the BB between your legs.

New? Sounds like a poor mans version of a t-bar row, with the chest pad added to me. Either way, it is a good lift for sure. Too bad you don't have the machine at your gym that allows you to do 3 types of angles. I used to rip out 2 sets per angle with 90 second rest-periods in between sets. Before you know it, you're 1/2 way done with Back having used just one machine. I got too used to them though, and don't do them anymore.

the t-bar machine at my gym is terrible. the platform which you stand on is slanted up and it makes its very hard on your lower back. the positive side to it is the different angles it allows you to hit.
i stick with the old school BB in the corner method

yeah the BB in the corner is classic. at my old gym they had worn about a 3 inch deep pocket into the cinderblock in the corner with the BB

Man the originator of this thread got messed up worse than I've seen - joncrane? Didn't even post second on it (or at all) ...

lumberg: i hate those bent over rows in the corner cause i can never get the right angle for it to not kill my lower back form all the weight OR hit me in the nuts.. That fuckin barbell would always squish lil ihatecrunches into my ass. Its a pain

I just don't have the right handle or whatever to do them.

And yeah I like having my chest supported so it's just the lats I'm focusing on.
