Graveyard....

Wondering how many brothers out there work the grave shift and if you think it screws up or enhances your routines....

Thanks.

Hey brother!! When I worked the graveshift doing security at age 18 or 19, I went from 185lbs solid, down to 151lbs. It definately wasnt for me. I could of prepared much better for it, but I didnt have access to any facilities so it was difficult. However, Ive been on a night schedule for years. Not a working schedule, but my sleeping schedule. I often sleep around 7-9am and wake up 3-6pm or later. The schedule rotates constantly. It can be tough to adjust to, but I think if I did it now Id be much better prepared. So I basically ended up not eating much and missing days in the gym or having shit workouts. If you bring enough food or a blender you could probabally get in most of your meals on the job and finish the rest when you get home. Then wake up at 3-5 and get into the gym. The guy I trained with worked night shift and progressed to a 400lb bench press. So it can be done, just takes some planning. Hope that helps!!

I feel your pain. I've worked at night for the past four years, and I know it's holding me back. I feel like I got hit by a dump-truck every day when I get up. It takes me 2 hours just to wake up and figure out what I have to do each day. Just thinking about how bad my hormonal balance is fucked-up makes me cry.

The key to what Beast said is planning. I am in the opposite boat, where I recently began a 9-5 job (which has been more of an 8-6:30 job!) from working nights. So, now I have to adjust my planning. I am so used to working out in the mornings when the gym is empty and found it a great way to start my day. I am now faced with either going to the gym after work (when I am sure it is PACKED) or, waking up extra early and going before work, which would cut down on my nights and sleeping a bit. I also am learning to prepare tomorrow's meals today. It's all about planning.
