Gpa

A = 4.0
A– = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B– = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C– = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
D– = 0.7
F = 0.0

figure out what your grades are in each class. then take the number of credit hours each class is & multiply it by the number above (if you got an A in a 4 credit hour class then that is 16). add all the numbers up & divide by the number of credit hours you took.

example B+ - 5 credit course; D - 2 credit course; C - 3 credit course = C+

also note that some schools do it slightly differently with different number curves and some use weighted classes as well.

but for the most part, yes, it is the average and A = 4.0

It can get a little tricky, for instance if you transfer hours from another university, sometimes the credits count, but not the grades.

Also, sometimes certain elective credits are not computed into the GPA for your Major field of study.
