Two days ago after an excellent day of riding with a couple of the fellas. We decided to head to Red Baron to see if they had any new 03' models in stock.
I asked about my next sevice interval and what not I was done. The boys and I were headed our seperate ways. As I pointed myself to take a right there was traffic both ways. (keep in mind this is Japan and they drive on the opposite sides of the street here).
I looked left down the hill. About 100yds. out the light turned red. There was a grey car which I was sure was going to stop. Then I looked right and no traffic in sight. I proceeded to cross the on comming traffic lane and across the double yellow divider. As soon as I got pointed straight and just about to get on the gas a bit. I heard a horn and felt contact at the same time.
For a fraction of a second I have a missing gap in my memory. I remember my head and my shoulder on my left side making hard contact with the pavemet but I don't really know how long I went out. When I came around I did a quick diagnosis of myself to ascertain the ammount of injury I suffered. Took of my helmet and noticed the left cover was busted off and indentions of the street pressed into my lid. I found it very difficult to breathe and had alot of pain in my shoulder. I couldn't lift it past 90 degrees w/ out intense pain.
After the Japanse police arrived then the base police I took a ride in the ambulance to the Japanese hospital. X-ray's reviled a broken left clavicle. If any of you have ever sustained this injury then you know there isn't too much that can be done only in extreme cases will they use plates and screws.
My bike only fell on the left, from what I can tell its cosmetic. Rash on the left sides of the upper fairing. dented left pipe, busted blinker. Today I'll get some pics and some estimates from the dealer. My insurance is a couple levels above full coverage so that is taken care of.
For now though I think I'll order some stands for my bike and see if I can replace the parts with my choice of equally priced aftermarket pieces. In other words use the winter to take my time. With this broken coller and the declining temperatures I'm going to be driving until spring anyway.
I'm pretty sure the guy in the car speed up to beat the red light and comming up the hill didn't see me until it was too late. I'm not mad at him cuz it could have been alot worse. So I consider myself lucky. I'm gald that I always ride with proper gear.
BTW I was my riding gear consisted of Alpine Star black riding boots, str8 legged levis, Seool's riding Jacket (has inner kidney belt, back protector, elbow and shoulder pads) some Japanse brand of gloves has a leather and kevlar, Arai raptor helmet.
The jacket and the helmet are the onlys one that took any damage and that was minor. Except I believe all helmet are only safe for one collision.
All in all you guys be safe out there.
