good shoes for squatting?

I'll be happyto answer you, they are both affordable and very stable, Converse Chuck Taylor's. :D

thanks! I appreciate the help.
I know it's a funny-sounding request, but I have a weak ankle from an accident a few years ago, so I want to find something that will give me the extra support. I'm glad they're cheap, too!

my Chucks are "oil" green. Love 'em! When I got 'em I found out that the store I got them from has the widest color selection in the country (in case some of you were looking for an aqua or hot pink pair :D ).

If I were doing a high bar squat...I'd get a pair of Olympic Lifting shoes... For wider stanced squats or deadlifts...I'd get the Chucks.

Chuck Taylors....oh that brings back memories about making fun of those shoes when I was playing basketball in high school! Ahhhh the memories!

I dont see why you would need special shoes for squatting? It seems to me you should just build up your ankle strength a bit and then you wouldn't neet special shoes. I never wore good supporting shoes and i am fine.

I think supporting shoes are to cover a weakness in the ankle. Look at backetball players. They hav HUGE shoes and their ankles suck ass cause they are sooo untrained.

All I know is that about 9 months ago, while wearing a pair of Nike hiking shoes, I lost my footing with 315 on my back. Scared the crap out of me and almost messed me up.
The wrestling shoes stick like glue, and I lift at my house so I don't care how gay I look. :D

Ooooooooooo Pink! lol

To match the fuzzy dumbbells. Gotta get me some.

Seriously, I just noticed this thread and in one I posted Bfold mentioned my shoes. I need to find out who carries them around here (is it a common brand? you see how much I pay attention to these things) and hope for a sale.

any place that ships overseas?

I really don't know man. You might want to run a search on Chuck Taylors... I may be moving overseas in the next year...it is a scary thought...

Seriously though...I don't mind ordering them for you and shipping them to you...

Not ankle support.

Reading your above statement suggests you have never squatted in a good shoe. Once you try a good shoe you will throw your sneakers out the window. You dont know what you are missing out on

I dont see how a shoe could possibly help. But perhaps you could explain. Maybe its the way i squat. my stance is about shoulder-wide, so my weight is always directly above me. Therefore my feet never slip or feel akward. Mostly i just oncentrate on driving the weight up.

Most of the people squatting in Chucks are strength athletes(powerlifter, strongman, etc.) Most use a wider stance and need a shoe that has a flat sole without a riased heel, rubber outsile with good traction, and high top for better ankle support. All of those factors make Chucks an ideal shoe for squatting.

The rubber soles in sneakers give you a soft base to squat from.....once you try a solid heel you will feel more power transfer from the ground.
