Certainly a good exercice for lower back

but if not done properly it can easily lead to back injury

So, is it really worth it ?

I believe that Louie Simmons said...

well there is quite a bit of sheer force on the lower back, you need to full concentrate while doing them, one slip and your toast. If your back can't take the sheer then don't do them

RDLs do the same, every similar exercise but are a lot safer for some reason, not sure why though, since the bar position and body positons are very similar, but with GMs the back sits on the upper back which creates a fulcrum effect.
At least with RDLs, if something goes wrong, you can dump the bar quite easily.

Yes.

Any excercise is dangerous, if done incorrectly. Learn to do it right, and you're fine.

Bar high on shoulders like a squat. Legs straight, chest up and out (very important), maintain curvature of lower lumbar region, and bow forward at the waist. Down as far as comfortable, then back up. I find that if I hit them right, I really feel the pull down my glutes and into the hams. Seated GM's really hit the glutes hard for me.

Strange...I don't do them like that at all...

High on the shoulder? Nope...I take it low.

My legs are not straight either. I don't squat or deadlift with straight legs either.

I don't bow fwd at the waist...I sit my butt back...wayyy back.
