Good Lifting Shoe Recommendation?

Kabeetz

Banned
I've been using assorted running shoes at the gym... shox nz, new balance 992, and I think they all suck and might affect my squat form.

Does anyone recommend a good sneaker for lifting?

I've read that lifting specific shoes aren't really necessary, but I'm sure there are two schools of thought on that one. Whatever suggestions you got I'm listening.

Well its night and day with regular show and lifting shoe. It's only 100$ for adidas weightlifting shoe and its veery good, i cant squat without it anymore =)
Though if you have no options then i'd buy basketball shoes instead of running shoe.

Chuck Taylors!

I saw someone squatting in those today... what's the premise with weightlifting shoes... u want the foot to not be supported except for under the sole?

I will also look into the adidas, thanks.

If you're Oly squatting or doing the Olympic lifts, get Oly shoes (adidas or the cheaper ones at Glenn's site would be good choices). If you're PL squatting, or want a more stable shoe for deads, get Chucks.

I've got adidas shoes for squats/OL stuff, and chucks for deadlifting. Both are excellent, though chucks were much cheaper.
+1

I cannot tell you how much I love my Oly shoes. They are an absolute necessity for anyone who squatting, and they are great for OHP as well.

I've even been DLing in mine lately and in my case I think the Oly shoes are working out better than the Chuck's.

I have been experimenting with my squat form, and I believe I am settling into Olympic squatting as per the Hatch training videos.

In terms of chucks, i assume u guys all mean high top for some ankle support right?

I've been using this 4-5 year old pair of Nike Air running shoes that are falling apart. I can't imagine those being good for me.

Where can I find some cheap weightlifting shoes that will be better than running shoes?

it'd probably be better to squat bare footed before you use shox and shoes that relieve pressure for running by compression. I use chucks because OL shoes are too expensive for me

Chuck Taylor high tops. Got mine off eBay for $32.00 with shipping. Order 1/2 size smaller than your walking shoe for a snug fit. Great for squats and dead's, with enough flexability for calf work.

you want something with a flat sole. this will keep your feet firmly planted on the ground. most shoes are slightly arched, making it a little harder for you to keep your feet flat. not to mentiong, they are much thinner (the sole of the shoe) makes for a slightly less distance when pulling!

Thanks for the knowledge. I am definitely gonna get a pair of chucks for now. I wish I asked this question pre-christmas!

don't look like this please. wearing chuck taylors and a beanie does not make you "hardcore", just a dumbass. if you deadlift 300+kgs you'll be a badass no matter the choice of clothing. haha crossfitters.

HAHA. the shorts with the stretched up socks with the chucks don't help either mang.

I plan on investing my next few pay checks in an all metallic/animal print workout wardrobe soon so I'm gonna look great in my shiny new chucks! :supercool:

Two other fashon statements in the picture: 1)cammo print on the beanie, 2) the chucks are low top.

Another vote for Chucks. I've worn them for years and they beat the heck out of lifting in running shoes.

Anybody ever heard about these shoes? They are a lot cheaper than the adidas shoes that I can't seem to find for less than $150-$200, but they must be better than the old pair of sneakers I'm using.

I have the adidas shoes, but from what I've seen on various forums the quality of the VS Athletics shoe is decent. Another good option for quite a bit less than the adidas models would be these:

Those are the exact shoes I bought from Glenn Pendlay. Unless they are significantly cheaper there than those from Glenn, buy them form Glenn as he has done a lot to advance the knowledge of many on this board. You can get the shoes from the link that Cynical Symian listed above.
