Gold's Gym problems

Anybody else have problems with this company? I cancelled my membership at the beginning of February. I talked to a couple employees and they both said that my membership was cancelled, over, done, etc. No longer needed to pay and that I was completely done with the company.

So I stop going there. Like a week ago I got a call from them complaining that I haven't paid. They told me that I am still binded to my contract and that I had to pay for February and that they were going to charge me a late fee for not paying.

This is just my latest problem with them. I have a whole history of BS that they put me through.

Anyways, anybody else have problems with this bullshit company? Any information on lawsuits etc would be nice.

A friend of mine went through the sorta same thing, not with Gold's but with a different company like them. I told him to take them to court over it because they were gonna slam him with a $1500 fine because he didn't want to go there anymore (supposedly that's what his contract was for-- $50/mo. for 2 and a half years or something like that, he obviously didn't look it over if he wasn't that committed to workout). Well, it's pretty much their word against yours, and you are binded by the contract. sorry bro

What ended up happening with his situation?

well he's just gotta pay the $50 a month until it's payed off. He don't have the money right now to pay it off altogether, plus he just got fired so I really don't know what he's gonna do about it now. I know I ain't helpin him tho cuz he already borrowed the first $50 from me and I haven't seen that back yet. But if I knew a way he could get out of it then I'd tell him, but for right now, like I said, he's binded by the contract too.

I've learned the hard way that you always want everything in writing, if you cancel anything make sure to get some paper with proof. My friend got screwed out of two months of membership; he put his account on hold or so he thought and when he got back from his trip there was no record of any employee ever freezing the account. Just a minor example. Hope everything turns out okay for you.

Well, what does your contract say? If your contract says that then you are bound by it. That is the reason they have em. It is a double edged sword. You usually get a lower rate if you commit to a longer term. But on the other hand if you bail out before the end then you still owe them money. You can't really have your cake and eat it too. Sounds like you would have been better off doing a month to month.

a contract is a contract, get a copy of it and read everything you signed initially. And then you should have a very clear answer.

To be fair this doesn't sound like a chain problem, these are franchised and each owner has to handle situations to his discretion.

Sometimes it goes beyond that to the collections company they outsource too.

What companies don't realize is that all the negative opinions you share, cost them a lot more than they are making by keeping you in a situation you aren't happy with.
