Fuck ... forgot this was the internet. Let me "adjust" my response.

I'm the lead pilot of the Blue Angels.

They're flying at the Willow Grove Naval Air Reserve Base outside of Philadelphia today. Since the base is on the list of 150 recommended to be closed I don't know when I'll get a chance to be this close to one of their air shows again.

Going to shoot video but I need a better program than what came with my video camera to get it onto the computer. One of the guys I'm meeting up with is supposed to bring me a copy of a good program to edit video with, so maybe after I tinker with it for a few days I can splice something cool together from their show and throw some music in the background.

Taking my son with me too. He should get a kick out of the air show.

I might have some pics to post when I get back, but I'll be working the video camera so I don't know if I'll have a chance to snap off shots or not.
It's pretty awesome bro.....your son will love it.

Umm, sorry dude, I fly number 1 jet. You're geigh-assed #8, the public affairs officer. j/k

I'm in P-cola myself, live about four miles from the back gate of NAS. Can hear the Blues practice all the time. When I was in the Navy stationed at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, they stayed in the VFA-106 hangar right next to the Ground Electronics building I worked in. Anyway, we being the guys in the know in Electronics, we ran a PA system all the way up and down the flight line, and all the demonstration announcers could patch in. Anyway, the snobbish ass Blue Angels Public Affairs Officer said they had to use Blue Angels equipment, and of course it broke down. 200,000 people show up over the weekend and can't hear a word he said.

At that same airshow a Strike Eagle pilot screwed the pooch big time. His announcer says as he's landing now watch the incredible short runway braking of the F15. Stupid assed pilot hot brakes it and rolls all the way down a 12,500 ft runway and ends up in the grass. Was hilarious for us squids to see a bumblebee do that.

I will tell you this, tho. Sorry to see Willow Grove go, I used to catch P3 hops to there from NAS Jax on the weekends, so I could visit my parents in Williamsport, PA, for $12 total (train fare from Philly to Harrisburg at the time)

The Blues are primadonna sonsabitches, but they do put on a good show.

Cecil field? Last time i was there was in 1992. Is it still there, and do they still store "special packages" there if it is?

Cecil is now closed, called Cecil Commerce Center and is owned by the City of Jacksonville. They still do touch and gos, though. All visits by Air Force One, and other dignitaries normally land there, to avoid the publicity and for security. When the Superbowl was in town there was a shitload of Gulfstreams parked there. Also, John Travolta filmed Basic there, if you remember the hospital scenes, they were done at the old branch clinic on Cecil. YellowWater Weapons Facility is also closed and is now home to a huge park, Equestrian Center and a branch campus of FCCJ.

I was at GEMD there from 86-89.

I just saw the Blue Angels May 5-7 on Cherry Point. They were nothing, but nice to us. They even tried to get us on Fat Albert, and were set to get on until the COC Gunny scratched us for his own guys.

I climbed up the fuel tanks, and got a few pics of their performance from there. One of the other guys has it on tape. Came out pretty decent. The moves they pull so close together is amazing.

Have fun, Crak.
