Going back to school at 27

I have decided to go back to school this year to get a 4yr degree in aviation administration but mainly to go thru the schools CTI program which is so I can apply to the FAA for a air traffic controller job. Any body close to my age in college now? What is it like are people like checking ya out wondering who this old guy is in our class?

Bush has made it a pain the ass since 9-11. But i guess lots of the current traffic controllers are due to retire in the next 10 years, so you may have good timing,

Yea they are losing 50% by 2010 that 7500 controllers thats huge last year you know they only hired 1 fuckin controller. They are screwing themselves bigtime.

I graduated from college when I was 26. I spent 4 years in the military right after high school. I usually one of if not the oldest in my classes. Seemed to me that I did not sweat the pressure of college. Having a test was no big deal for me.

Its ok going back to study in your mid 20's especially if you are looking younger than 27. You will find that you will meet people in your class older than 45.

I went back to school at 34 and graduated at 36. I was not the oldest but probably the most motivated. Best decision I ever made as it changed my life.

it's, uh, interesting seeing 18-19 yr old chicks all day long, that's for certain. it's also annoying to a point because there's a lot of people that are nowhere near to being mature running around the campus. it actually makes it a bit harder for me to make friends because of that. 2 of my friends that i met are both my age.

from the women standpoint, a lot of chicks are actually turned off by the age difference. granted, i'm not actively persuing chicks, but it seems that when they figure out how old i am they lose interest. no big deal to me though. i'm sure if i was single i could find plenty that wouldn't give a damn about the age difference but like i said, i'm not persuing any women.

it is funny when people find out how old i am though. i get a kick out of it, especailly when i ask them how old they think i am. they want to say 18-19 in the worst way but they realize they're probably going to be wrong, so they try to say 22.

I'm going back to school within a few weeks myself in March.


I'm taking a 1-year intensive computer tech support/networking program.

It's a $500 tuition government funded course. The same course that Delta College or CDI College would offer for $15,000 for the year.


They've actually been screwing me around since September which is when I was supposed to start as I paid some money already & then they said it was full I'd have to wait until January.


January comes around & they say it will be the end of January as they don't have enough ppl, then it's Febuary & they say it will be the end of Febuary as the still didn't have enough ppl.

Now it's the end of Febuary & they say they almost have enough ppl but it will probably start around the 12th or 15th of March this year.

They better not fuck us students around & make us wait until the end of August this year as that will be 8 months of waiting wasted even though I'm working but I'm taking this course to get a better job.

i too was 27 (well 26yrs), when i went full force. I would take a class here and there.

My first job out of undergrad was as a trader here in NY. I have since changed careers and now working in the Actuarial Area.


A former co-worker left last year to become a freakin Doctor. He is 42yrs young and excited about his new career choice.


Don't ever think you are to old. to be honest i thought the same, but quickly got over it.

Only 1 draw back i encountered was that I wanted to go into the ROTC, but they said I was to old. they said i would have had to graduate by the time I was 27yrs.

Oh well, Uncle Sam;s lost.....hehehehe


and Oh, I had my own apt and it was a revolving door. the younger ladies took to their older and more mature classmate...hehehe

the Military will take you in until the age of 35. between teh ages of 27 and 35, you have to get waivers because they consider you to be "old." didn't realize there was an age requirement to volunteer to catch bullets.

btw: i dunno if you arleady know this but those jobs are given to people with PHD's and masters' degrees. just a 4yr degree probably won't do it bro. About going back to school at 27...several people in my class are way older than that. age is totally not a factor in school, espeacially if you're taking class at night you'll see a lot people way older than you.
