Glutamine while Cutting. When and how much?

Warblade

New member
I'm on a cutting cycle, and things seem to be progressing nicely. I just learned about glutamine, and I was wondering how much should I be taking per day, and when should I be taking it?

Start with about 15 to 20 grams per day. If you don't notice anything, up it to 30 gms/day. Take in five gram doses(1 tsp). One upon waking up, one pre-workout, one-post workout, and one before bed. Those seem to be the optimal times to use it. Good luck, and good choice in supplement.

Is there anything I shouldn't mix glutamine with? How do most people take it? Drop in some water and stir? Or is there more to it?

Thanks

What MuscleDm said except...

10 grams am upon waking, 10 after training and 10 before bed. if that is to much on the old wallet then do 5 am, 10 post workout and 5 at bed time.

water, juice, protein shake, whatever is most convienient for you.

Do not take glutamine with your protein shake, unless you're using glutamine peptides. It will hinder absorbtion, so take it separately.

Ok, so what are glutamine peptides? I assume this isn't the L-Glutamine that you normally find from the major brands (ie, Optimum and EAS).

L-Glutamine vs. Glutamine Peptides, which is better?

How long after I take whey should I wait before taking in L-Glutamine?

The peptides are better from an absorbtion standpoint, but they're certainly not a requirement. They are also more expensive. Just get the regular stuff and take it say 45 minutes or so after your MRP.

Thanks for the quick response. I checked online prices, and the Glutamine Peptides from AR Nutrition (1000g) is about the same price as the L-Glutamine I was gonna get from Optimum. I think it's worth it to be able to add it to my after workout drink than to have to wait to take separate things :)

Absolutely. If you can get them for the same price, or even close, do it. And hey, will you post up a link to AR nutrition?

This is just a link to a store that sells the stuff. Although after reading the description it looks a little questionable whether these are actually glutamine peptides. Yeah, the tub says "peptide" on it, but, the description is seems to contradict it.

From the site:

AR NUTRITION ™ presents GLUTAMINE PEPTIDES, to help your body maximize absorption and increase the speed of muscle recovery.AR NUTRITION ™ presents GLUTAMINE POWDER, a dietary supplement designed for athletes, bodybuilders and active people who simply enjoy working out. AR NUTRITION'S ™ GLUTAMINE POWDER is composed of L- Glutamine, the most abundant free amino acid in skeletal muscle tissue. L- Glutamine plays a key role in replenishing and restoring essential amino acids following an intense workout. These amino acids are responsible for the synthesis of skeletal muscle proteins, enabling your body to build and maintain muscle resulting in muscle cell volumizing

So, which is it, peptides or L-Glutamine. Grr.
