Glutamine Question

Does this stuff actually aid in recovery? Ive read both free form and peptides are completely useless and vise versa. Also read it is only effective through IV. If you get a chance post your experience with it....

If you bust your ass hard enough you still get sore. The real question is wether it is digested properly or just passed. I guess when they change the form like they did with the creatine ethyl ester it will make it more efficient. I take it not because it makes me feel different but because ive read stuidies that show it is very beneficial in recovery. Ill tell you that if your looking for the miracle supp its not glutamine.

its really shines during calorie depravation ie. cutting diets
during normal traning it seems to alleviate soreness

Ditto!!!!! Works like a MOFO during carb cutting. Use Glutamine AKG which is a much more absorbable form and cheaper/mg too. Stuff works!

Please read the following article dealing with the theraputic use of glutamine

Since glutamine can be absorbed by basically all tissues of the body , it doesn't seem likely at all that free form glutamine will make it far enough to aid in recovery

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body and can be synthesized by virtually all tissues. It is considered to be a conditionally essential amino acid during periods of catabolism. Glutamine is the primary fuel of rapidly dividing cells such as enterocytes, colonocytes, fibroblasts, and lymphocytes and acts as a precursor for glutathione, other amino acids, glucose, purines, pyrimidines, and glutamate. Depletion of glutamine can result in atrophy, ulceration, and necrosis of the intestinal epithelium. Glutamine treatment is thought to prevent chemotherapy and radiation-induced gastrointestinal toxicity by helping to maintain the viability of gastrointestinal tissues.

Splanchnic uptake of oral glutamine doses is approximately 57-84%. The volume of distribution is 14.7 ± 2.1 L. Within the gut wall, glutamine is metabolized extensively in the mitochondria of colonocytes and enterocytes to alpha-ketoglutarate which then enters the citric acid cycle to form ATP. Lymphocytes and fibroblasts also metabolize glutamine in this manner. Ammonia and glutamate are by-products of glutamine metabolism. The elimination of glutamine follows a two-compartment model with a terminal half-life of 67 ± 11 minutes.

that is why you must supp with Glutamine peptides ( either synthetic or protien based)
or N-acetyl-Glutamine :)

do the way the molecule is "cleaved" this glutamine becomes "deliverable" into target tissues

the proof of this is the results with seemingly more yeild with the use of less material
