Gloves vs straps

I personally never use gloves. I want my hands to get worked and to have to learn to deal with the pain/discomfort/weakness. I think it depends on your goals/style of lifting. I'm sure a few PLers hear can chime in on wraps and their use of them to assist lifts.

I quit using gloves years ago. They got torn up, smelly, and interferred w/ my grip. I almost always use chalk now. And I only use straps when my grip starts to get weak.

I use both.
Gloves for just about everything, I get bad calluses. Makes beatin' off hurt.
I don't care if it's geigh.
Straps for heavy deads is about it.

lol. the geigh factor isn't what I care about, it's the loss of grip strength.

Nice KillahBee, thats exactly what I like to do, take it like a man :p

im female that works w/investment bankers- I use both because its very unprofessional to have big calluses on your hands. When Im very rich & retired in my villa in the south of France, I will only use straps.

Gloves just cut down on wear for your hands. Straps are for holding weight. Certain exercises make using a double overhand grip impossible given the amount of weight. Deads, power shrugs, heavy dynamic pulling for reps. The weight and force of momentum are just too much for double overhand finger strength, momentum and really heavy weight will best the alternate grip also or increase risk of a bicept tear. Plus, certain pulls are necessary to do double overhand.

I agree!!! I just chalk up and dig that bar into my hand. My calusses are as thick as leather, but my hands rarely hurt anymore.

No gloves here... I like the rought feel and callusus.

I do religiously use straps though. I only do dumbells and barbell lifts and my grip/forearms always fail before other muscles do.
