Global warming and Jesus Christ...

Help me understand something.

On the one hand, I've seen the most devout neocons around me decry global warming. To this, I've asked them...

"You don't believe in global warming where there are some 'facts', but you believe in a zombie-fied deity who wants you to eat his body and drink his blood (Christ)?"

How does this work? How can you believe in one and not the other? I would of thought that global warming is more believable then coming back from the dead.

Because global warming is backed by science and proven to exist.

Also, unlike Christian principles and outlook, you can't use global warming as a tool of hate or bigotry.

I typically don't waste my time with pieces of shit like this (and I'm being nice here) - but I figured calling names of my God deserves defending...

the worst offenders who "hate" are those that cry they are being hated...

I am; and always have been an independent - I have reached the conclusion that there are no good candidates in the mainstream. We will see how the next year goes before I decide...and you?

It's not your God that's the problem... it's his braindead followers.

Last time I checked, God didn't condone that behavior they exhibit.

Bullshit.

Since when does global warming dictate you go to hell?

How many murders are global warming responsible for?

Since when has global warming made it to mainstream as a way for others to justify their own narrowminded views and bigotry towards others.

It might be science and politics mixed (and I agree), but religion is neither science nor politics (although it was born out of politics it isn't any more.)

agreed and I would say its "some" of his followers - you would love my Church its Liberal Catholic and we were on the chopping block because of our opposition to many of the conservative "traditional" church views. Its just a mistake to generalize the current administration as Catholics - because they are not.

agree, but the similiarties are there.
don't believe in global warming? then you are damning our country to figurative hell.
and peeps project murders caused by global warming...you know, nyc gonna be flooded, cali gonna fall off into the ocean, NO wiped out by global warming hurricanes.
and if you don't believe in this, why then you are evil.
that's the message extremist are pimping

I didn't generalize that.

But they are promoting themselves as the be all end all to religious virtue. Which is a farce. When your outlook stops being spiritual and becomes religious, you are lost. There IS a difference between Spirituality and Religion.

I have half a mind to post a picture of a rather infamous friend of mine who has been a guest in my home many times. But instead I will quote his words "Religion is a business." These words come from a person dedicated for providing the direction to Salvation for thousands of people.

The problem with religion (not spirituality) is that people do not apply it to themselves. Religious principles based upon spirituality offer one - not a group, not a family, but a single individual - the blueprint they need to become a better person for themselves. Each person is responsible for their own improvement. The problem is that most people are unable to admit that they are not anything except perfect and therefore can't face the fact that they need improvement. So religion becomes a tool that they use to support their fragile mind and justify their own perfectness while attempting to point out the flaws in other people. Sort of like the person trying to appear skinny by standing next to a fat person... they try to appear perfect by bringing attention to the so called flaws of others.

The concept is flawed simply because of man's inheret emotions of insecurity and jealousy. If you have to go around proclaiming your religious nature, chances are you are not secure enough in your spiritual calm in the first place.

I agree fully; likewise I try not to judge any other religion since I truly believe they have the same basic principles.

There are actually a lot of churches, including some of the more batshit-crazy evangelicals, getting on the global warming bandwagon. It's a confliction between loyalty to the politicians who have traditionally been on 'their' side and 'what would Jesus drive?'

I normally avoid discussions like this as they just tend to get nasty, but as someone who is to the left of center, gay, and a person of faith I have to say that narrow mindedness is rampant on both ends of the political spectrum. Narrow minded liberals don't get as much air time as their conservative counterparts (if for no other reason, they're less dramatic and interesting), but they do exist. They're message is simple: it's okay to be different, so long as you're different like me. It's in this regard that they are exactly the same as their conservative counterparts. They want only to associate with people who are like themselves -- to hell with the rest of the world.

So, if you go to church on Sunday, even though you have no intention of discussing your faith with anyone else, they have nothing but harsh words and disdain for you. If you're not particularly interested in having another tax taken out of your paycheck, you're a lousy citizen. It's a lot like the b.s. the comes from the far right (e.g. if you speak out against the war, you're unpatriotic; if you openly question domestic spying, you're a traitor).

The real open minded people are, as per usual, in the middle. Thankfully, they're the ones you're most likely to run into on a day-to-day basis.

This is true, I was only thinking of the people who I've asked this question in person.

They could give Phelps a run for their money in the same way that some of the PETA folks I know sound like they would kill lots of people to save one baby fawn.

i'm neutral on global warming, i think the answers are in the middle some where.
but notice how peeps still don't conserve, even those that fully believe. still not willing to make sacrifices.
personally, i try to conserve as much as i can...no unnecessary trips, try to ride my bike to places, don't drive a huge suv or truck.
but make no mistake about it, global warming is largely about politics IMO

I'm neutral on both but lately I've noticed that those around me are getting into the 'fringe area'.

I've got friends who constantly tell me that I'm going to hell, but then tell me that global warming is full of shit and that Al Gore is pure evil. I've got other friends that tell me that I'm an asshole for taking my car to work somedays and not taking the bus, but then they also call me an idiot for my agnostic ways because there is no God.

I love it when both groups of friends get together.
