It's god's will. and EVERY conception is a gift, even if the woman doesn't find herself so gifted. Maybe "all the OTHER true blue christians" will happily accept this gift in her stead? Nope, they are too busy picketting and blowing up clinics where woman who choose to terminate a pregnancy can do so with safety. Maybe if they weren't so busy handling "that part" of enforcing their version of "the will of god" then they'd have more free time and funds to handle "another part" of someone else's version like feeding, clothing, loving, nurturing, guiding and PAYING FOR a baby that someone else couldn't or didn't want the responsibility for.

But an unwanted pregnancy is just like tsunamis, stillbirths, volcanic eruptions, aids and every other "unfortunate event" that we aren't "allowed" to blame on god, meanwhile we are supposed to praise his name for anything that goes right: like not becoming ill, winning the lottery, being born with ten fingers and toes.

Humans have no free will. It's all up to god.

Late-term abortions are practically a different category altogether. They're seldom, if ever, performed on women who simply don't want to have a baby - in fact, they're usually performed on women who WANT to have a baby.

Case-in-point: my friend's sister who very much wanted a child found out somewhat late in her pregnancy that the fetus was rife with severe defects stemming from an up-til-then undiagnosed genetic disorder on her end (she'd already had one child who had been born healthy). It's not just that the kid would have been developmentally challenged or ill or something - it's that it would have had no shot of survival at all. It was pretty devastating for her, and the abortion was hardly some abdication of responsibility.

Situations like this and instances of the mother's life being in danger are far more the rule than the exception when it comes to late-period abortions.

So, yes, many pro-choicers are "uneasy" about late-term abortions on some general principle; however, I think that sentiment would disappear rather quickly with some more information on the specifics of late-term abortions.

First of all, that's a terrible story. Hopefully she's recovered and moved forward with her life. I have four children and can't imagine going through what happened to her.

Women under those circumstances can find abortions locally. With those qualifiers, many (if not most) qualified doctors will provide them.

If her reason for a late-term abortion had been: "The father and I have broken-up", she would have been forced to resort to a Dr. Tiller or one of his ilk. It wasn't the fact that he provided late-term abortions that made him controversial -- it was the quantity and circumstances of the procedures he performed.

And one of the most fundamental Christians pastors ever (I cant decide if he's a nutcase or what...he's very fundie) who writes tons of Christian books, Dr. Peter Ruckman says that abortion is NOT murder, that a human does not have a soul until birth - so no murder is taking place

Christians are divided on the abortion issue - they debate it all the time.

That's one of the issues isn't it?? when did he become GOD ??? when did he become all knowing and empowered to make that determination?? he can educate on what the bible says.. but judge?? As a fundie i'd take um bridge to his manipulation and self appointed high road..
