Girls! what could be causing this?

I was giving some nutritional and excercise advices to a girlfriend the other day. She used to workout some time ago but now she is a little bit overweight in her midsection. But the problem is, she called me today to ask me if I have any idea why her body is bloated. I was like wtf? Then she told me that for example, past week she put on some pants and they fit good. Then on Tuesday, this week, one day after going to workout for the first time after a long time, she put the pants again and they were very tight. She waited until Wednesday (after going to the gym on tuesday) to try her pants again, and they were very tight again. This is not something like a big problem since she knows that putting her diet and excercise on track will make her loose weight. But she was wondering what was the cause behind this bloat in her thighs. I didnt have an explanation for that. Is this something related to the fat in her thighs?
 
The simplest answer is that it's cuz she's a woman. Really! Women can retain anywhere from 5-10lbs of water during & before their monthly cycle and sometimes up to 5lbs of water daily!!

Has she recently eaten a high-sodium meal?? I find that this one Thai place I go to -- I'm bloated for about 1-2 days later.....

Depending on where she is in her cycle AND whatshe has been eating lately .... she could be retaining SEVERAL pounds of water.

If she is dehydrated, which is VERY likely, then she will probably retain water - esp if she eats a normal/high amt of sodium.

Tell her to drink at least a gallon of water a day and cut out soda (even diet has a lot of hidden sodium).
 
I get thigh bloat after doing a leg wo. It takes 3 days for it to go down, seriously. It has been like that forever and I plan my workouts around that. If I know I am going out Saturday night and want to wear my tight jeans, I will do my leg w/o before wed. this way I can fit into my pants. It doesn't matter where I am in my cycle. I actually have had to increase my reps and lower my weight. My legs respond to workouts faster than other body parts. But definitely drink plenty of water. People forget that more water in means more water out, if you don't drink enough, your body holds onto it.

Forgot to ask...just for my own knowledge. lol That water retention in girls tend to be less once they drop body fat percentage? or at least, is less noticeable with less body fat? or is always the same?
 
I dont' think the bodyfat really matters. Maybe its worse when you are really low bodyfat because its such an obvious difference? The amount of water retention seems totally random to me. NOrmally I have no issues at all. Other times I feel like I gained 20 lbs & should go buy a mumu.
