getting to my 3000 post thread

very carefully

lol

They never told me that I kinda needed to know the basics of C++ in order to use Matlab. I just figured it was like a normal calculator that could show more detailed color graphics in 3-space. Dammit.

speak english man......... Im not that kind of school nerd

Hey, that's okay!

What kind of school nerd are you then? Hopefully not one of those engineering dorks.

How do I input the Hamiltonian of a harmonic oscillator into Matlab7 to find it's eigenvalue?

:cow:

harmonic oscillation...any dampening?

Well, the original question states a small perturbation term A1=epsilon x and asks for exact first and second order corrections to the eigenvalues of A0 produced by A1... but it's just the learning Matlab that's the problem. I have a 900 page book on Matlab, and there's, like, only 30 pages devoted to diff eqs. I have absolutely no idea how computer programming words, so I'm really lacking the pre req knowledge for this stuff.

They really should offer an actual course for this.

what???

what do you have against engineers, eh buddy?

There's always been a physicist/engineer/mathematician rivalry. Math guys rarely interact with the real world even by computer, so they're hard to find. They rarely actually admit to being math majors, too. Usually it's just the engg guys and physics guys ripping on each other.

:cow:
so as an engineer, am I obligated to rip on you, nerdo?

Funny last night at the first party I was at there was a couple people in the kitchen, one was a physics major, one a math major, one an astronomy major and of course myself the engineer.

I was better then all them, we were like "awesome, nerd convention in kitchen"

I think you and me are thinking about a different 'Matlab'
What is it? I'm thinking a C++ math constructor library.
Sorry about the dead link. They don't allow hotlinking :whatever:

Umm... it's "MATLAB", by The MathWorks copmpany. I have the newest version 7, which includes some "Simulink" program thingy for the engineers.

I know there's a "Mathcad" by Mathsoft company, too.

I'm not sure how do describe or differentiate it. I do know that Matlab is up one of the 'big 3' of the math programs, the other two being Maple and Mathmatica.

This is the website for the book, maybe it'll help describe it better for ya: http://www.eece.maine.edu/mm/

:D Ok, waaaay different. I was talking about another matlab.

Uggg... there's different ones?

I really should take a course on computer stuff sometime.

:cow:
LOL. Mine is alot easier. Call the library, pass some math arguments to a class, output, simple. I looked at yours, damn bro...Some advanced stuff.
