Getting proper nutrition when i'm out

Hi guys,

I've been lifting for 6 months now and i'm seeing good growth due to my eating habits. I'm bulking at the moment and i try to be as clean as possible. Dont have much of a choice since i put on weight(fat) quite easily.

I have a problem getting good food when i'm out. Everywhere i see sells nothin but junk food.

How do you guys get your calories when you have to be out for hours?

I guess having a protein bar on you is a good idea but they are very costly here. I dont wana sound like a scrouge but i'll be broke if i have to eat 2-3 bars a day.

Would appreciate it you guys could offer some suggestions. I've not been having much of a social life since i started bulking. Dont wana miss a meal

Thanks

What exactly do you mean when you say 'going out'?

If it's out to the movies, or a party, or somebodies house, or just out around town, either drive and leave food in your car, or take a backpack with you. Careful though, since chances are you'll get ribbed on. :)

Otherwise, you'll just have to make a decision one way or another. Taking dinner with you into a club isn't feasible, and there are just some things I'm not willing to give up for any diet.

My personal solution is eat a big meal before I leave, and just not worry about eating while out. I concentrate on having a wild time, then get home, eat everything in sight for a few hours, and collapse in bed.

Just try to avoid crappy food if you can't bring your own. Don't worry *too* much about catabolism and anabolism. :)

Oh man, I have this same problem all the time. I take a shake (mixed in water) in a rubbermaid container, that will last you about 4 hours if you take two servings, it gets warm but I don't THINK it matters. I also take tuna sometimes if I'm going to someone else's house, or you can throw a can opener and fork in a little bag. I've also been known to take a baggie of peanuts. I'm too cheap to start buying protein bars. And yeah, you definitely don't wanna start compromising and buying the "best" thing you can.

Thanks for the input guys. I have to admit its a real pain having to lug food whenever i'm out of the house for long periods of time. But its dedication to this lifestle that keeps me going. Its a small price to pay for such great rewards.

I agree with bishonen about not giving up certain things just because of my diet. Just got to be flexible.

If only someone could come up with a pill that contains all the required nutrients. Sure will come in handy :)

Hard....

Depends on your plans.

The general rule is 6 grams of protien per ounce. So, if you know how much protien each meal you'll need will have, you can try and buy lean meat in a meal.

Carbs (I find) is never a problem. Remember that 1 gram of fat roughly equals 2 grams of carbs, and you can just presume most any meal will be carb/fat heavy.

I usually try to make my food and keep it in an Igloo with Blue Ice. Sometimes I bring enough protien bars so I don't have to worry about the protien I'll need.
